The Flywheel is quite small but quite heavy. Is there a lighter 'wheel?

I have just found this at Fensport;
---------
Lightweight Flywheel - 2ZZ-GE Weighing 4.4kg it is 27% lighter than standard

----------

It costs about £373 plus P+P. Is it worth it?

Being a total technical numpty, whats the upside to a lighter Fly-wheel, other than actaully making a saving in overall weight
Whicj is something that I am obviously interested in

I have never put a lightened flywheel in my cars yet. There is an obvious weight saving but that is not really the point. A lighter flywheel will enable the engine to rev up quicker by lowering rotational dynamic torque (correct description?). You can also do the same thing by fitting lighter wheels.

you get more benefit in the lower gears e.g.

1st 40Kg
2nd 25kg
3rd 15kg
4th 5kg
5th 2kg

depending on how much you lose of course - all the above are the equivalent weights of what you have lost of the weight of the car...if that makes sense !

so well worth doing...although on low torque engines, it may make it easier to stall.......

With a lighter flywheel, you will ahve to rev the engine a bit more to keep it alive when pulling away otherwise it will stall easier.
£373 is very expensive! Take the old one off, and have that one ligthened for a fraction of the cost.

It will also affect the engine braking effect of the car... too light and the revs will die too quickly, making gear changes harder for the average driver.
