Beachbum,
Take a look at this.

Now my car is looking REALLY bad. I have had a look at Just1 front clam and it is still almost perfect. His driving style is no different to ours. Lets face it you are always well back from the pack and the stone chips and yours is as bad as mine.

There is the flat spot on the front which the nice people at westover say is a waranty job, but the chips are really getting me down.

I think a letter to Lotus is in order.

There was a recent change to water based paint which seems to be incredibly prone to chips. Does anyone else have a problem?

Paint issues are rife with S2's mate - I've seen plenty of discussion on SELOC. Have you had a hunt around on there for info?

It's these flimsy bl--dy S2's you see - you don't get that cr@p going on with a nice sturdy S1

Hi Everyone,

I think it's been made a hole lot worse by the switch to a water based Paint, Ntc car's have a few early S2's and there not as bad as mine. The early car's weren't painted in water based paint's

Polished my 111R yesterday and was shocked at the amount of chips on the paint - red does show them up but even so...

Okay here goes
Take it to your Main Dealer (Thats your Lotus one, not the Guy on the corner you meet every Friday)

I am getting the nose of my 111R resprayed under warranty cos even the Lotus Field Engineer was amazed at the damage. He thought the car had done in excess of 10K miles, he was shocked when I told him low 4K.

Rule of thumb, is if the paint can be picked off with a finger nail there is an issue. If you break your nail trying to do it, there isnt.

Luckily enough, areas of mine were very pickable.

had my 111R checked by field engineer, same as above really, if it picks off then its a problem, if not then it aint. but that does not make me feel any better about all the chips on mine. especially bad on leading edge of rear arches. should have had a light colour, not paid the extra for a custom(lazer) blue. but i would not have been happy with an other colour so i just accept that if i drive her she gets chipped.
