I had a run in with a brand new Elise when I first bought my turbo on the motorway...was expecting him to do well..he didn't.
Bet that was fun for you
That crazy ... bloke has spent over £26K on moding a £4k car!!!!!! £26k for 380bhp that wouldnt beat us in the twisties!
We ll have a good idea what you could do with £30k on a car. Making it worth zilch isnt one of them!

each to there own dude he might like the mr2 just because you can pick a stock one up for not to much doesnt mean its not worthy of spending money on, the guys in that thread come across to me as enthusiasts on the whole, just because they drive a mass produced car and choose to spend money upgrading it doesnt mean you should look down on them as being stupid

I am not looking down on him, I reserve that for maxed Nova's. I used to be in the IMOC club and I had a Mk1 Mr2. I respect the car and there is a lot you can do. I dont understand how you could justify spending £26k on mods that you will never recoup. You are not adding to the value of the car. I respect it because he has created something for himself but and it is a big but it is not that interesting and for the money he could have done something far more interesting.

its not about the money its a hobby for these guys anyone who upgrades there car rarely see's much return if any on that investment, but its done for fun and to enjoy, personally i agree with what you say for the money you could have somthing more interesting, but interesting to who? they probably feel about there mr2's like lotus owners feel about there cars be they elan, esprit etc

You have made some good points and I agree with you in principle but the heart of my arguemnt is no matter how you polish a turd, it is still a turd.
To get an Esprit or Elan in show room condition, you have returned a very special car.
The Mk1 Mr2 was a brilliant car, The mk3 handles well and has character, the Mk2 is a flabby sports car that didnt deliver the smiles per mile it should have.
I would be interested to know that if the guy had spent £26k on a nova or astra, would you say the same?
I must admit that I have a biased point of view and I see a lot of car customisation as a waste of time and money, probably because I have never had an insurance problem so I could go out and have fast cars at an early age. I wasnt forced to drive a 1.1, where the only fun is to make it look a little more individual. But this guy has a high insurance car to start with and there is no way to hide the mods he has made...
I am just boggling with the concept of spending £26k on a £4k car.
Look, mod the engine to give whopping bhp. Fine. Then you have to do the brakes, then the suspension. The chassis dynamics was never configured for what you have done... The whole concept is impressive on paper but fundamentally flawed.
Some friends and I have acquired a B16a engine and modded it to about 230bhp at 11000 revs. This thing is mental. We have built a spaceframe chassis that incorporates roll over protection and put the engine in the back. We are still developing the braking system but when it is done we will have a rally car that will kick anythings arse on any surface on any bend (we have a brilliant driver) More intelligence went into this getting the chassis dynamics right, the suspension geometry correct and now the brakes. We have spent just under £4k and we still have the bodywork to go.
Far more interesting.

Thats no good then so then i will have to pay someone all that money to do it which i cannot afford on an electricians wages, or get the engine gave the car of the road for months and make my own kit up for it.
Sounds a bit too much effort to me. Would it be simpler to get the toyota engine in or not

nope ...and these engine conversion kits are not as easy as you think - the major players who developed these kits have spent hundreds of thousands of pounds developing them...
You may want to have a look at www.auto-teknix.co.uk
- 1.8 Audi turbo conversion - cheaper than the Honda.......

That would work out alright for me as i have 2 mats who work for VW so parts are evry cheap and so would maintenance lol.
I think i will have to give up on this engine conversion idea its too much money, I had an engine cionversion done before and that cost me £3500 and that was witha fully rebuilt engine with all new pumps and new gearbox fitted. Looks like i will have to stick to the K then
