How much work is required to get music of a standard you can hear in a 2005 S2.Is it just a case of speakers or do i need more.

What stereo do you have - DAB 54? I think it may be the speakers that are poor. I've messed around with the presets etc and still cannot make it sound anywhere near the quality of my Scenic's stock system!

You are never going to achieve reasonable sound quality in a Lotus - accept that.

Enjoy the car for it's own 'sound' qualities.

I had the stereo upgraded in my R - details here

www.dougward.co.uk/Pages/Gallery%20Pages/EliseR.htm

Had the following installed:
ALPINE CDA-98855R Head Unit
JL AUDIO 8 inch 8W0-4 Polyglass Subwoofer
ALPINE SXS 1357 5 1/4 inch 150w 2 way component speakers
FOCAL 100w 4 inch polyglass 2 way component speakers
GENESIS Profile Series 5 Channel ultrathin fan cooled amp. (Fits in the inch or so gap at the bottom of the passenger seat between the seat and the bulkhead)
ALPINE KCA-420i Interface adaptor for IPOD (allows IPOD to be controlled from Stereo head unit).

Total cost including install £1650.

thats a nice install Doug

what are the front speaker pods like on a 111R?...they are crap on the S2 as they are open at the rear = poor bass...been trying to figure out a solution or find some off the shelf 4" enclosures that will fit behind them,,,,

I have not really had a look to see if the pods are open at the back as I did not fit the stereo (it was done professionally), I'm guessing though they will be more or less the same as they are on a standard S2. One things for sure though, with the head unit set up correctly I have enough bass to knock the windows out of any traffic within a 10m radius - as far as the overall sound quality of the bass goes - all of the speakers are run through the amp so you get pretty spot on bass tones rather than the somewhat scratchy resonance you can get when the speakers are run off the head unit.

Definately reccomend the amp - fits nicely behind the seat without taking up any of the parcel shelf and saves you having to take up room in the boot also.

The only thing I would change on my install would be the location of the IPOD connector - i'd put it in the boot as you can control the IPOD from the head unit and it becomes a pain having to remove the ipod and put it in the boot every time you park up.

I have a 5 channel amp in the boot, and an 8" Kicker sub in a custom rear bulk head.

Phase Linears up front, and JL Audio XR525 mids in the rear (no tweeters or highs from the rear)

The Bass is great - its just the mids are lacking from the small 4" fronts with open backs

Have you adjusted the sound delay on the Alpine head unit to you get a perfect stereo image in the drivers seat? ...I have the settings if you need them - spent all afternoon calculating it and messing around...sounds spot on now, considering the position of the speakers in an Elise.

Have not gone as far as working out the absolute perfect setting as yet so if you have the details please do send them to me. Off to corsica now for a week but will try them out when I get back. Cheers.
