I've been meaning to break my track day cherry for a while now and the MotorSport Vision novice half day at Brands on 25th Aug seems like the perfect introduction and at 99 squid hopefully a bargain.

One thing that has put me off was uncertainty over passing the exhaust noise level tests. The limit for this day is 105db. Alan from MS Vision said I could go down to Brands today and get it tested - which I did. Quite a long drive over from Reading which was only spoiled by there being trafic jams half the way there and back. Lovely day to be driving though... got completly frazzled (serious panda eyes):headache:.

The guys down there were very friendly. The great news is I passed no problem. So just in case anybody else was wondering about this, exact details are:

* S2 111S
* Larini Sports 'zorts
* Sports cat
* ITG Induction

1st reading ~96 d.b. (@5k rpm)
2nd reading 103 d.b. (@5k and a bit rpm when I blipped the gas a bit accidently).

Reckon would have no problem blagging it for a 99 bd limit. Although I do wonder if they will be as relaxed when they hear the engine at 6k under serious load :laugh:.

Would be interested to hear other peoples experience particularly with the Larini.

105 is very loud indeed.

I have a sports exhaust, cat bypass and K&N and I came out at 101 recently, but like you I think I went a little over on the revs. All the tracks have different limits on different days. The only guys that didnt get through at 105db limit were a few Challenge Ferraris and a couple of de-muffled Trevors.

I have just posted a sound clip of my exhaust on PH TV. Hopefuly Ted will ok it so watch this space.

If the worst comes to the worst you can always get some of these...

Would look pretty rediculous on an Elise though

Mmmm its been an education, quite good fining out a problem is not a problem at all.

he he he he had to laugh at those muffles - something about them looks seriosly funny. Might as well try sticking a bananna up there! Not sure it would drive well but has about the same comedy value.

Wheelbarrow handles on your exhaust?

You need to be careful about drive by metres which most tracks also have so even if you pass the static test you can still get black flagged.

I did an unrestricted day at Donnington yesterday which was absolutely fantastic. There were cars there which made my Stage 2 exhaust sound like a sewing machine.
