Finally got around to replacing the snapped boot cable today, but - having never done this before - I can now reveal, I can't even get them wheels off - there is a locking nut of some kind.
I'm a very technical guy - most of the elise maintainence and tinkering goes on with ramps, I've not so far needed to remove the wheels.... to be stumped so easily is a little embarassing. :banghead:
:paperbag:
My question to you all is this - where can I get the required tool to remove the locking wheel nuts? Are they Lotus specific nuts, or are they just somehing from the garage - I imagine the former.....
C'mon - someone out there must be able to help

Two years, speaking from experience when I got my wheel nuts finally off after that long, i could have driven my car around without any wheel nuts - wheels stuck firm, had to take to kwik fit, where they confidently and carefully smacked the hell out of them with a larger rubber hammer. Did the trick also FOC
then copper coated all contact surfaces before refitting.

You are all wrong!!!
I'm still stuck... I had a look at the adapter ( next to the towing eye ), and tried it... 2 problems:
a) it doesn't fit the nuts
b) there is no sign of the adapter entering the lock hole on bolt 4.
For a bigger desscription: 3 of the nuts have smooth heads, and seem to be quite deep ( deeper then the adapter! ), and the 4th nut is the saem size / profile but has a slot on the front ( looks not disimilar to the slot on the door button ).... ... I might have to get a photo >
So c'mon guys - I need help here!

Yes check the 'bolts' on the wheel. One of them will be a cover which comes off revealing the actual nut underneath.
Put the plastic tube which the adaptor sits in into the socket and give it a hard tap. when you take it out the plastic cover should come with it revealing the real nut underneath.

thats to identify it as the locking nut! there is only one per wheel!
slide the plastic tube that the nut tool is in over the cap with the slot in, and the tangs will click over it (may require a tap, as davey said)
then give it a good pull and it'll pull the cap off, revealing your locking nut!!!
hope this helps mate

Did he then explain how to work your video recorder?

1. Open the front bonnet.
2. On the drivers side about a foot away from the windscreen should be a round red plastic cap about 2 cm's in diameter.
3. Take the cap off and there will be a black plastic tube about 4-5 inches long. Take this out.
4. Inside the tube will be the locking wheelnut adaptor.
5. Put the narrower end of the plastic tube into the hole in the wheel where the locking wheel nut is (which should have the plastic cover with the little indent in it).
6. Smack the base of the tube with your hand until it clicks.
7. When you remove the tube the silver plastic wheelnut cover should come out with it revealing the locking wheelnut underneath.
8.Use the wheel nut adaptor to remove the locking wheel nut.
