After realising that kids and a 911 or Sagaris are incompatible I've decided to buy an Elise and a Ford Focus.

It's likely that I will be getting a 111R with touring pack + air con this weekend as my local dealer has a few ready in stock. Are there any other options that are seen as a must have?

A while ago I saw an elise with a hard top roof which kind of opened up to make it easier getting in and out of the car. Any idea if these are still available? I htink the VX220 had them as standard.

I'm quite looking forward to an Elise, it's completley differnet to what I'm used to driving.

Touring pack and the air make a nice package. The winged hardtop exists but isn't very good and not an official lotus one. Still a bit of a wait unless dealer has stock....... one in the classifieds with only a couple of k's on the clock at a massive saving. Gives you money for a stage 2 exhaust and some other trick bits !

Thought about an exige ??

Try www.productionglassfibre.co.uk - not much info on their site but I have a nice glossy ad - roof costs £1500 plus painting at £200, internal roof liners (pair) £50, door storage bag £50 and roof storage bag £100.

Gull wings can be stored in the boot for those sunny winter days.

Personally, I have no problems with the fixed hard top on my 111S and plenty of people here will probably tell you not to bother with a hard top.

Good luck with the 111R, you might want to consider a Stage 1 exhaust (Stage 2 sounds great but won't get on too many tracks) and induction kit to improve the sound.

Had a quick look a that car but Bell & Colvill are doing a great deal on finance, so I can get a new car for the same monthly cost as a used one.

So are you all saying that you don't need a hard top? Apparently the soft top roof that comes with the touring pack has a thermal lining. I won't be driving it that much in winter or bad weather as I'll use the Focus day to day.

I haven't even driven an Elise yet, but I'm sure I'll like it.

Does the stage 1 'zorst boost power or is it simply a cosmetic/aural modification. Apparently a piper cross induction kit is only a couple of hundred pounds, I might get that anyway.

Exige? I'll try one a the weekend as a comparison but I'm not that keen on it. I quite fancy a soft top for a change, I've had an Impreza, 911 4s and an M3 over the past few years.

Do Elises chew tires and disks on track days? I've always been put off track day because of the cost of replacing tires/brakes but with the Elise being so light I would expect it to be quite light on the consumeables.

What's a real world service going to cost? The dealers always give you a low figure when you are buying a car.

Thanks,

Phil

If you are going for the 111R you need a Quicksilver exhaust on it makes it sound superb. We started off with a stage 1 but the Quicksilver Supersport from Hanger 111 is miles better along with an ITG induction kit

Standard price for a service from an independent approx £120 - £150, from a dealer approx £265 plus VAT.

Right

If you intend to get an induction kit go for an ITG, not the cheapest but easily the best. Exhausts are a slightly hot topic however having had a stage 1 I would go for the quicksilver it is noiser but not overloud and is far better designed than the stage 1, it also ways 15lb less.

I use mine daily and their is no need for a hardtop. The thermal lining on the softtop is fine and when fitted correctly does not leak.

Hope that helps it is a great little car.

Hi all

Brought a 111R with Mrs Boggy in September 2004 haven't stopped smiling yet get one or get an S2 Exige they are both brilliant, drove a S2 Exige on the Weekend with stage 2 pipe induction kit sounded and went amazing, another thing really stuck in my mind the 111R is so totally different even thou it's the same car completely different animal

How old are your kids? a 911 is ok for the first few years!

2 cars might be a better idea though.

Morning,

Can't make my mind up at the mo, Mrs Boggy is totally sold on the Idea of a very bright Exige but I'm very interested in the new europa. I've heard some very interesting talk on the matter of 0 - 60 times and how in handles I wouldn't pay to much attention to the word GT it's rumoured to go like stink and handle very well but again this is all rumours

They're very light on consumables on track unless you're on the semi slick A048s which will give about 5000 miles per set if you're being kind but the road tyres should take a few track days in their stride. The brakes are more than up to the job but when they're up for replacement a set of Pagid RS 4-2s will make things even better.

Exhaust/induction is up to you but they can sound a little McDonalds Novaesque.

Hard tops aren't necessary for a second car and just take up room in the garage for most of the year.
