Hi all.
I thinking of painting my S2 in orange.
Would this affect resale value all else being equal, or should I stick with gun metal grey with black strips?
Cheers!

Unless you are going to have it done properly (i.e completely stripped, sprayed and then reassembled which will cost £££££££) I wouldnt bother.

Cheaper to sell yours then buy one which is already orange

I have it stripped at the moment... 200bhp engine rebuild nearing completion, and other work needed, meaning to paint it will require very little prep work by me...

The 200bhp, if it's a K series, is as much likely to affect resale as the colour. Righly or wrongly they have a reputation for going pop and people seem to be cautious about buying them.

Firstly, you will have to explain to everyone why it has changed colour from the Log Book i.e. no honest, it wasn't nicked.

And secondly, orange will be quite a rare colour, not to everyones tastes and so IMO may make it harder to sell.

As above, sell it, buy an orange one.

You send off to the DVLA and they update the colour no questions asked.

I searched in vain for an Orange S2 and couldn't find one! Don't think it would harm resale by too much at all. Just stick to Lotus colours - Lava, Chrome etc...

Has this recently changed as my BiL tried to do this years ago and they refused.

What grounds did they give for refusing?

You've a nice get out clause for speeding now: "Can't be my car in that speed camera photo, as you well know from the DVLA database it's red not green."

On the grounds that as it hadn't been in any accident or anything that would require a respray, the spray was purely cosmetic, but the original colour should be noted on the logbook.. This was maybe 10 years ago now.. Sadly the car was sold long ago.

I don't think this should be a problem for any vehicle. Parents own a haulage company and when trucks are repainted different colours it's never a problem to update the log book. We boought a Fiesta Van (white) from the Police a runabout for the yard and painted it red and updated logbook for that no probs too.

Can't comment on 10 years ago though - I was busy in school!
