Hi all - glad to be back online after a lengthy spell away due to some computer nightmares (technical idiot you see!) :paperbag:

Am finally giving in to the temptation of a second car to allow me to keep the little 'liz all nicely tucked up in the garage during bad weather. I have put an astonishing 30k on her clock since I acquired her just over a year ago - so I have decided to try to keep the miles down over this winter and keep her looking somewhere near her best.

So the big question - what should I opt for??? Don't really want to spunk more than about £1000-£1500 and don't really want anything too thirsty.

Suggestions???

At that price range I dread to think. How about a 1.2 ex moms now sons tinkered with Nova. OR Try the Bus!

Old Mondeo's are right down in price now...probably worth a look. Maybe even 406's (only Pug that was built properly).

Generally the newest cars you'll get in that price bracket are either ex-rep cars or small hatchbacks..."family" hatchbacks are more sought-after.

Loads of good cars to be had for a grand. Vectras, Mundanos. Any half decent volume car, 1.6 petrol or maybe a diesel if you can find one.

I was kinda resigning myself to the 'volume' car route and had considered a mondeo or similar. I guess this would be the more sensible choice as there is a greater availability of such models, cheaper spares etc - but I still would consider some quirky(er) suggestions...

What would be the best of the classic hot hatch bunch for example? Are there any in this price bracket???

if you want good economy. reasonable performance and a good drive go for as 306 d-turbo. Should be able to pick a n/p plater up for that price. If you dont fancy a tractor engined one, then the 306 xsi is pretty good. Gti-6 bit more than your budget.
however, budget hot hatch wise, has to be the 205 1.6 or 1.9 gti. you could pick up a decent example of either for that money, and would allow you to experience driving thrills that almost match the elises! sorry, dunno what else to suggest, bit of a pug fan
