I wont be adding my mum. She is the only person I know who can overtake a caravan but not the car that is towing it. Crazy old bird!

I also did the 'add mum' trick and have reaped the rewards...

Me old dear is a 57 year old with no claims/points and is a current IAM member. I am a 25 year old with 5 years no cliams, no points or accidents and opted for a limited mileage jobbie as i'm about to get a second car.

The policy came out at an incredible £474.00!!!!! That's just amazing in my book so I bit their arm off.

This was with Bell Direct by the way and I repeated the quote without the old dear on there and it went up by £120 - still not bad though - and my mum will probably never even drive the 'liz since she can't get in it!!!

Just bought this year's insurance from Chris Knott Insurance. They were very good. Adrian Flux were close, but too many bad stories around them.

26. Self-employed (so, business use). 3 NCB. No points/claims/accidents. 12k pa. Some mods. S1 111S. Old dear as named driver (saved me £300 last year). £760. £120 off last year's 10 month 'accelerator' policy with elephant (also good), so a good deal I think.

Fecking insurance just annoys the sh!t out of me. Every year the same old BS from various places - how on earth they come up with the numbers they do so that one company can be SO far off the others (up or down) I'll never know.

Sorry mate... have a search on here and you'll get some good threads with lists and lists of numbers to call.

FWIW my best this year was with AutoTorque:

29yrs old, Elise owner driver since 2001, no points, 4 years NCB, parked on street in good postcode in Kent, S1 Sport 160s valued at £14k. Limited mileage of 6k, only me as named driver.

£701.50 inclusive (plus 2 free trackdays).

I did think that was pretty good until I read some of the quotes above. Drives me fecking crazy!!!

Not to mention the sudden ability to knock a couple of hundred off when you tell them you've been quoted better elsewhere.

Just make the most of that fact and shop around. Worth a few hours of anybodys time for the savings* that are around!

FYI - I used to be with Cheam (I think). Anyway they got taken over by Norwich Union. 2000 Elise, Garaged in London, 5yr N/c and limited mileage and its under £600 just. Mind you I'm almost as old as some of your Mums (no quite).

Worth trying First Alternative. I'm 34, 5yrs NCB, clean licence. £500 protected NCB for me and my wife (32, 6yrs NCB) on a new 111R.

Amazing how companies can vary so widely. Best I had recently when coming out of a company car scheme, so no NCB, Norwich Union were best by a long margin (£738 comp on my S160.) They did give an introductory discount equating to about 3yrs NCB subject to confirmation from my company about 3 years no-fault claims.

Give AON a try, they do a Lotus policy, Esteem is the name. I got my 111R for £660, unlimited milage, protected NCB.
Unfortunately, I am just about to see how good the claims system is as I had a little off last week. Will keep you posted.
