S1 temp down to 81 degrees

Had my s1 for over a year now, and the engine has always stayed at apx 87 - 90 degrees. It's now dropping to 81 at times. Any ideas and is this somthing to worry about?

Hi, mine does that now and again, usually when it has been hotter and the thermostat has opened open then I have set off and it has cooled down quickley. Don't think it as anything to worry about as if they break they usually stick open meaining it would be lucky to get to 80 degrees or shut which would mean it would over heat. See what others have to say.

Mine used to run 78-84 all the time.

Just had a service, and it's running 85ish normally now. Probably just a bad earth on a sensor or something - I think the digital readout makes us over sensitive.

Could be one of the temp senders on the way out. Piece of p!ss to change and only a few quid as they're from the Rover parts bin.

mines always around 69 - 78 usually 74-78.

is this anything to worry about then? i thought this was normal?

My Sport 160 runs at 83 /84 all the time, so dont worry.

Mine ran at about 68 - 75 when I got it. Then I had the Stat and temp sensors changed and it sits at about 79-81 pretty much all the time.

The parts are pretty cheap (see eliseparts) and the garage only charged me an hours labour for doing it.

mine runs pretty low too. have bought a new thermostat. anyone know how to fit it???!!

I would keep a weather eye on the temp gauge its not a big drop and you would probably not notice if it wasn’t a digital read out.

Also form anecdotal evidence they are not that accurate i.e. the same temp of 91 on mine could be 80 on yours, but both would be fine.

The thing to look out for is big changes if it drops any more then it looks like a stuck open thermostat = HGF if its not sorted.
