I know a fair number of Exige owners previously had the elise (in various S1-S2 models). My question is do you miss those "roof off" moments? I know some Exige owners have taken the roof off the S2 occasionly, but the beauty of the elise is how quick and easy it can be removed and re-fitted.

I have a test drive arranged at Williams soon in the Exige, but the roof issue is a biggy for me, how is it for you Exige folks.

if the roof is a big issue (i.e. you reall prefer an open top 2 seater sportscar) then why not just sitck the Exige wheels/tyres/suspension on your Elise...best of both worlds then

Or buy a soft-top and get the fixing holes put on the roll-bar cover? I'd say think about what you really want from the car. Don't forget air-con is a must in the Exige so if you spec it it's not so bad having the roof on.

I'd go with Bogies suggestion. It would/will be the way I will go if the money ever makes itself available.
Only prob would be the rear spoiler, but I am sure there would be a way round that.

The removable roof is a big thing for me too.

I didn't like having the roof off at first (111R) as the weather was always poor - I found the wind cruising around the cabin a bit annoying and regretted not purchasing an Exige! However, for those one or two days a year when we have great weather, it's an additional bonus - another facet of the Lotus experience. If I was to make the choice again, I’d probably go for an Exige becos the roof off thing isn’t one of my main attractions to the car. Sounds like it is for you… Get yourself a 111R and upgrade as per the other recommendations…

I have an S1 Exige and its probably the only thing I miss from my old Elise, you get used to it after a while.

If I was looking for an S2 Exige though I think I'd get a 111r instead as you have the best of both worlds.

quite easy to convert the exige roof so that it becomes as easy to remove as the elise.
1-2 hours work, then buy a softtop

so you never need miss roof off motoring

I've had a couple of soft tops, then got the Exige. I haven't missed the open top motoring at all, coupes are just more manly, gggrrrrrrr..

I have the roof conversion on my Exige (car had it when I bought it), so I get the best of both worlds... The hard top for those Manly moments (and most of the year) but I can take the roof off and enjoy the sun.. if it rains, i just put the soft top (std elise one) on and it fits perfectly.. Most of the dealers seem to do the conversion and I have noticed no difference in driving dymanics..
