If so what make did you go for.

Were the results worth it

I have an S2 111s - I thought the standard cardboard cones sounded rather tinny. I wasn't keen on the chav boy racer 15 inch subs etc, but just wanted better sound. I went for alpine speakers, the same size as the standard ones - 2 fronts and 2 rears. Vast improvement - could turn up the volume without distortion even with the standard headset.

Unfortunately my standard headset was a bit temperamental and would not read cd's in the cold - not much use in winter. Put in a clarion Mp3 player with a memory and the sound was even better.

Definitely a worthwhile speaker upgrade if you like music. Cost ~£60 for the front pair and ~80 for the rears (directional tweeter etc), but I probably could have got the lot a bit cheaper if I had shopped around.

Cheers and good luck
Andrew

i upgraded the rears for a decent 100 pound pair.
waste of time really, so went back to standard

I was hoping for more bass, but really you need a subwoofer

I went for a set of 13cm Pioneer Emotion speakers (TSE136C)in the front and 17cm (TSE179C) in the rear with dome tweeters mounted up by the upper seat belt anchors. Have a Pioneer head unit (DEH-P77M) and have just fitted a Pioneer TSWX105 amplified sub-woofer on the rear parcel shelf behind the seats. Really good sound now am in audio heaven.

Hi sorry for the delay - couldn't find the speaker boxes.

Front Alpine SPE 1002 75W 10cm

Rears Alpine SPS 130A 13cm

These fit the standard mounts with no mods needed at all and with a bit of fiddling, you don't need to take the seats out to get at the rears. I checked the invoice - ~ £120 for both. There are more expensive options, but a car as noisy as an elise is never going to be audio nirvana.

I put 17cm Alpine components in the read using the supplied spacers, nice bass now. These can be had seriously cheap (40 quid or so) from www.ukcaraudio.co.uk

Ditto Bogie

my S2 111s - 13cm rear 10cm front. Can't see how bigger ones will fit in. My alpines were deeper than the standards and I had to remove packing from behind the rear speakers. If the 17cm are deeper still, there will be problems installing them as a direct replacement for standard as they will not fit flush with the plastic bulkhead cover.

yep - 13cm = no bass...you need a small powered sube tube thingy as a minimum.....works great...until you take the roof off !

open top cars are not the best for installing a system in ...but if you can get some additional volume in there and *some* bass at least its useable on long journeys.....

O.K 16.5 cm is what I have fitted.

They do fit, honest. I just has to file the edges of the holes slightly and use the supplied spacers. Quite good bass now.

These are the ones that I bought.

I have some of the sxs 1357 for sale though(13cm) if someone would like a direct fit.

thats why you can fit the 16.5 (6.5" in then

Standard S2 is 13cm (5.25" and S1 was 16cm...altough 16.5cm nca be made to fit.

My standard speakers are 13cm though (5 1/4). You would never fit the sxs 1757 without the spacers and a little tweak to the holes. aI just went that bit further - only took 2 hours though.
