Just thought I'd share this here (x-posted from SELOC) because I'm SO pleased with my new ICE install.

Finally got around to getting myself a half-decent ICE set-up in El Beast without spending a fortune or going too chav/bling...

Alpine CDE-9845RR MP3 HU:

JBL GTO-626e - 16cm speakers:

Pioneer TS-WX 105A amp/sub:

Absolutely superb - purchased and fitted for less than £500!

The HU is brilliant, really easy to use and navigate (and nicely blends with the red & black interior of the car!) The JBLs sit neatly in the slots vacated by the OE Alpine units and the amp/sub nestles on industrial strength velcro behind the passenger seat, mounter on the bulkhead under the cargo-net.

I'm a very happy boy!

Got the same sub in my S1, makes a hell of a difference...

Fit it yourself, easy job, took me about an hour.

Bling Bling. No really - where did you install the sub - I have already done the head unit with a clarion Mp3 player and Alpine speakers, but a compact sub would be good.

I had it all done as one Johnny, and to be honest it was done at mates rates.

They wired it off the speakers to avoid having to run a cable through the cabin to the HU. Plus point is that there's no visible cabling, minor minus point is that you can't adjust the sub from the HU.

No complaints from me though, you can manually adjust the gain if you want to.

It fits perfectly behind the pax seat of an S1, mounted on the bulkhead with heavy-duty velcro.

Nice post! I've been thinking of getting some Ice sorted in my S1 this set-up looks good!

Have you got the tweeter pods in the front? I’ve been toying with the idea, they replace the orig dash inserts. The right hand tweeter goes in place of the dummy button near the Hazards about £105 I think.

Although the D-cat pipe makes great music too

Noel - you and I are probably going to need powered subs - we may want to hear the music over the sound of that great new Larini we are getting!

Have the same sub amp (Pioneer TSWX105A) recently fitted in my S2, it's behind the seats mounted on the bulkhead, not the most easy fit in the world as it involved removing both seats and the bulkhead and fitting cables up through the tranmission tunnel and up behind the dash, but my oh my is it worth it. Great sound from the sub/woof all driven off the head unit and I can really enjoy my music now. Real improvement for £150. Do It.

Holy Moly bogie - you are probably the only one who in theory would have enough engine power to run that beast - I hope that doesn't disintegrate their bodywork. Every time a wideboy with a 9000W stereo pulls up behind me in his Saxo, it feels like the base will vibrate my car clear off the road. I am definitely thinking something a little more moderate. Why with the 20W of power each side I will save with the HID kit, I might have enough left to run sub!

Cheers - if the S2 rears are 16's too then I don't see why not. They were a straight swap for the OE Alpines that were in there before. Only thing you'll want to check is, is the depth of the bulkhead casing on the S2 the same as the S1... i.e. will you need spacers. bogie should be able to answer that one

No tweeters in mine yet, I decided to see how I get on with this set-up and I can always add them in at low cost if I want. Frankly, I don't think I'll bother.

My car has an LS sports can, 2nd airbox removed and a decat so it's frickin loud... with this gear I can hear the tunes perfectly tho

It might be reasonably loud, but I guarantee nothing near as loud as a decatted car with sports cans and induction. The nice thing about the Pioneer unit is that it's very compact, easily mounted in the Elise, not booyakka in yer face, and doesn't drown out everything else like some subs do. At 100w with it's own built in amp it does the job perfectly. You really don't need a great big thing in an Elise. Plus it doesn't weigh as much which is good for your !

S2 has quite deep speaker holes...unlike the S1, so you have a choice of pretty much any 13cm/5 1/4" speakers you like in the rear....or maybe 16cm with a spacer/adaptor ring at a push

Pah... stereo gear :P

I'm one of the New Larini bunch but mine's decatted with a manifold and hurricane too so I'm guessing that unless I get a towbar to tow a trailer full of amps and subs there's no way I'll be able to have a stereo to match the engine

WHY OH WHY OH WHY

I know it's an S2 but this is taking the cake!

Each to his own I suppose, but wouldn't he have been better starting with a Saxo.

He might as well have taken a dump on Collins grave!

Hi guys,

It is possible to do a good audio install. I have replaced the outer dashboard air vents with 4 inch coaxials and replace the standard rears with 5.25 inch of the same caliber. Actually found that the reduction in front air vents demists the windscreen much quicker in winter which is a big plus!!!! Also fitted my JL audio 10 inch bass driver into a custom fit box to fit on the fuel tank behind the seats. It’s a tight fit, but its in there. The JL Sub amp is mounted at the end of the passenger footwell underneath the dashboard. All cables are hidden down the gearstick and handbrake plastci housing. The sub can be controlled by the headunit as well. All in all, a rocking sound system. Would teach many chav installs a thing or two! I don’t use it like that though, I just want it in-keeping with the music.

I know elise's arnt made for this, but hey, I use the car everyday and want some decent tunes !
