To all elise owners out there. I am trying to fit central locking to my series 1 at the moment. if successful I'd like to sell it as a kit. It would link in with the alarm system, so when you de-arm the car, it would unlock the doors too. How many S1 owners out there would be interested in this??

Also for Series 2 owners. How many would be interested in real carbon fibre panels for the interior. This would include sills, interior door handles (the one you use to close the door) and central air vent/controls panel. They wont cost £500 either, I would be looking at £200 tops or may be a bit cheaper for the full set.

If the interest if there, I will develope the items.

Thanks.

Easier to actualy buy it from Lotus. Mind you, probably cost a few hundred notes.... I'll look into it!

If you are messing with carbon fibre there are bits I would prefer. Front splitter for one suggestion.

Fitted central locking to my S2 using a Maplin kit (around 30 quid). Real easy. Couldn't get a door lock signal off the Meta alarm though, so had to fit an additional receiver.

Splitters have a habit of getting chipped / cracked. Replacing Carbon Fibre ones could get expensive.

Sorry to semi hijack the thread but Jig, was this receiver a maplin part too? Could I bother you for a few details?

Can I ask a silly question; how come you are able to make the Carbon Fibre parts with minimal cost? The reason carbon fibre parts are expensive around the web (£500 as you mentioned, for example) is that carbon fibre IS expensive!?

I would be interested though! (perhaps, maybe, the fins and such like on top of the engine cover and in the side pods?!)

Carbon fibre isn't actually that expensive anymore.

Proper high strength autoclave cured carbon fibre is expensive, as it's very labour intensive to make properly (needs hand lay-ups, several stages of manufacture, autoclave time, easy to get surface defects etc).

Low temp cured stuff that is 95% glass fibre with a carbon weave laid on the last layer and cured in a low bake oven is cheap.

Not casting any aspersions on product offered, just saying that there are different grades.

Still it isn't as expensive as people think and isn't really that hard to make. Trust me I used to have to build it for the ford world rally cars.
