currently toying with the idea of getting an elise, mainly for track use as the title suggests. went to the most useless dealer ever yesterday who didn;t listen to a word i said and was trying to sell me an exige.

can someone give me pointers as to the differences between the two handling wise. is there really a noticeable difference? if a 111r, i would prefer the performance pack, but there don;t seem to be many about. anyone got one up for sale (with p-pack)?

all answers much appreciated.

Id get the cheapest 111R I could find, then put the wheels/tyres/suspenion on it for track use - sorted.

The 135R is a great car...but what you are buying is a mildy tweaked K series with some wheels and LSS ....the LSS isnt really that good - its too hard on the road and too soft on the track, so youd end up replacing it anyway if you do a lot of trackdays.

So either start with a cheap std S2 and mod it, or 111R if you can afford it...just from a warranty and engine relibility view IMO

I reckon a 135R would be quicker and more fun than a 111R around most tracks. The extra grip from the Yokos and LSS makes a bigger difference for track use than the extra straight line grunt of the Yota engine, and adding the sticky wheels and tyres and LSS to a 111R would cost well over 2K. On the other hand, with the 135R you might always be wondering when the engine would go pop. Better to do what I did and buy an Exige - best of both worlds :-)

an out of the box 135R would be quicker than a 111R out of the box...but Id prefer the newer, better built car...and then sort the suspenion out...depends on budget I guess - theres some quick cars for sale on www.seloc.org - Audi engined Elises and Honda Supercharged S2s....fully sorted and ready for the track

What Bogie is trying to say is if you want the 'new' route then its easier to take a 111R and convert it to the suspension set-up (be it LSS or Nitrons) and tyres of a 135R, than start with the 135R and the limitations of a K-series and then spend a fortune making it as quick power wise as you'd really like.

yes i appreciated that and it does seem to be the more logical route to take. it's finding a 111r with performance pack that going to be the hard bit... any ideas where there might be one?

Is the difference between the performance pack and the touring pack?

Nice one lurker... 135R ???

Anyway, back to topic. Bogie (as always) has a point, however a 111r is going to set you back upwards of 23k at the moment, and it's going to cost you 2-3k to get Nitrons, OZ's + Yoko's and get it all geo'd and set-up nicely (which is what at a guess you'd want to do).

135R (if you buy one of the later ones) is very unlikely to go pop, and no more or less likely than any other K series. It's only the early ones which were a problem with the nylon dowels and most of those will have been sorted by now. Easy to find out by some simple checks with Lotus, or asking previous owners etc.

135R I think is a great package. You can get them for under 18k now and to can the LSS for Nitrons is going to cost you about 1.5k all in. So shop around a bit and you'll get one for less than 20k (you've already got the nice wheels & rubber).

111R vs 135R on the track driven by the same good driver? I reckon you'd struggle to notice the difference.

Save your 5k for other nice bits or servicing and those pricey Yoko's!!

Hmm, tempting. Anyone interested in a well sorted S160S?
