New Exhaust Supplier
Discussion
This guy is offering a re-packable silencer for Elise/Exige:

I am thinking about a new exhaust and was interested in the Larini but after reading about fitment problems, supply delays, dodgy after-sales service etc. I narrowed my choice down to StageII or Quiksilver. This one may be an interesting alternative...

Very interesting pipe - I wonder how it fits within the undertray - though I suppose it must. I admit I am really guuted for those folks that had trouble with the Larini and those that are still waiting. They came with a good reputation. I personally had no hassle at all and am really happy with the Larini - sound, performance etc.
I e-mailed an enquiry to 2bular and received a reply an hour later:
Hello Graham,
I can supply a short silencer (16" long, 6" dia), this was in response to a request from the chap whose 111R I used as a "mule". The original test silencer was much larger but turned out to be very quiet and he wanted something a bit more "sporty!" He only tracks at Knockhill, which has no noise limit of course. Having ridden in the car with the small silencer I can report it is not raspy even at low revs (no resonance). Under hard acceleration, when the second cam comes in, it has the most amazing scream, yet back off to cruise mode and it is certainly not anti-social!
I have decided to make these silencers re-packable simply because most 111R people I speak to, use the engine in the upper rev range (more, say than your average) to access the second cam (of course!). Gas speeds at those revs strip the packing (even using the Stainless wire wool as protection) and with the silencer being immediately after the Cat, heat deterioration occurs quicker too. In short, if you TrackDay a lot, the largest silencer I supply (22" long, 7" dia; cost £360 plus P&P) will meet almost every noise limit in the UK.
If you want an exhaust note which matches the car, when you welly it, go for a smaller silencer. Tailpipe design? "Discreet", like factory Stg 2 or twin 3" slash-cut. (I'll e-mail you a pic shortly). Hope this helps!

Jim's been trying out some of his designs in my car, and Simon has a grudge with anything related to a few people, including, err, me.
So, yes, he's developed a nice exhaust for my Exige S1. About 218 BHP with 158 ft/lbs and a powerband from 4500 to 8600.
I like it very much, but at this point I have the only one, and it's still a prototype. Means that it's still going to change. But at this point I have to say that I'm selling my previosu one: EBD big bore stepped maifold and a Powerspeed exhaust, which until now I was previously very happy with.
The thing is that the 2bular one has so many things that I like:
-5 kg lighter than the previosu EBD/Powerspeed one (which was already 6Kg lighter than stock).
-divided in three sections which means that if I want to take the sump out I don't need to remove the manifold from the head, just slide out the middle section
-more torque and power on the part that counts for my kid of driving
-being modular you can change designs very easy just by changing a part. Longer secondaries? just change the middle section
-straight through design, less hot steel around, so less heat to dissipate, further away from everything.
But above all, I like his way of thinking, challenging the common concepts.
But one thing I know is that the website is not ready.
He's still to post some nice pictures.
Anyway, talk to him and talk to others, then decide.
