Insurance on an Elise @ 21?
Discussion
I'm really getting keen on the idea of an Elise but i'm wondering what you guys think the insurance is likely to eb like, and if u know of any specialist companies?
I'm 21, licence for 4 years, 2 NCB, just got my first 3 points  (thou not on licence yet!!) and have previous experience of failry quick cars (Saxo VTS, track day spec, group 14 insurance, all mod's declared @ 19)...
..so what do u think the damage will be?? :S

Best advice is to get an online quote from Elephant.co.uk. Takes about 10 mins and you will know exactly.
For a rough idea I have a 1yr old 111s with 3 Yrs NCD kept in a resonably decent postcode in Poole (it would have been £500 more if I kept it in London) with an estimated 7k PA millage.
Elephant charge £1550 FC on a standard car. FYI I found that a VX220 is significantly cheaper to insure.
I'm not sure they will be keen on your speeding points - I have heard of it going up as much as 30% for a young guy with an Elise.
They will also rape you on the modifications - they are charging me an extra £120 PA for the addition of a Larini despite the fact that they will only repair my car with standard parts. But its worth it for the sound the larini makes

I would have thought cover to be a little cheaper than the Subaru - they have a really bad reputation for going walkies and being stacked. At least with the Elise they don't get nicked. Apart from mine
With a good postcode, and your NCB, you may touch £1250.
Points seem to make no odds these days - we all have them.

I got my S1 the week i turned 22, had it 7months now.
Insurance is not too bad compared to other cars I tried, probably better if you add a girlfriend or a parent to it. Im with Admiral, and it was 900-ish. I waited until I turned 22 as at 21 it was double that.
I did do some quotes with my Girlfriend as the main driver with me as named with Diamond, and she has no NCB driving 2 years and it was 840 for the year.
Just a matter of filling in as many online as possible. Tesco dont do under 23 anymore though.
Thats on 11k value. Good luck!

First 3 points tend to get ignored. Sometimes even the next 3.
Best guess would be ~£2k. Once you've had the car for 12 months this should drop significantly as more competitive insurers will entertain you. Having said that, there are many more that will consider you once you're 25.
Look into things that might reduce the premiums with each insurer. Things like SELOC membership, a 1st Lotus training day etc. All worth having in their own right, but some insurers offer a 10% discount for each!!
Good luck.

You're gonna get shafted, basically most places won't consider your modded Saxo as a 'similar' car and as such it's probably not going to help much.
Shop around and you might be able to get less than £1.5k. Will you be able to keep the mileage down? If so you'll get a discount for limited mileage. Also if you can garage it etc that will help.
If you're going with elephant or Admiral stick you're mum on the policy (assuming she has held a license for more than 5 yrs), this will bring it down too.
Good luck

beer hits screen! I wouldnt fancy your chances at getting cover for under £2k.
Ask ChristianM, he is 21 and has a rather nice 111s in postman pat red!
@ 23 and 3 points with no NCB (they won't mirror it from my other cars) it's £834 from tesco fully comp, so I reckon for this chap it won't be much more. especially if he garages it and doesn't drive to work in it

In reality we can't offer accurate estimates. Once the insurers have used their magic (and highly accurate) formula* to calculate their premiums you could have literally anything from £700-£5k. Only way to be vaguely accurate is to get a few quotes. As mentioned, do a search and you'll quickly find Elise-friendly insurers.

Geez!
Mine is a modified S1 111S (group 20). 3NCB. I'm 26, self-employed and living in London )not garaged). SELOC discount of 10% and no need to put the old girl on the policy - it didn't do anything. I managed to get it down to £700 with Chris Knott (and I still feel like I've been raped).

I paid £1,150 for my VX220.
They saw you comming mate
As above just shop around and be prepared for some shocking quotes.
May be a bit difficult seeing as you dont yet have a car but quite a few insurers are also giving discounts to drivers who have done one of Andy Walsh's courses at North Weald (www.carlimits.com)
If you can go with a friend with an Elise it may help (and will also be a huge benefit when you do get your own car)
