New contract, only a short contract but the money is good and it is VERY local! Keeps the money rolling in 'till the next contract.

I have not heard back from "your place" and I have chased it quite a few times and the oil company said no! Then asked me to go for 2-3 other positions. I will see if anything happens!

It is a 3 month "rolling" contract so we will see what happens. It is quite an exiting company which needs some help so I am quite exited about it!

There are certain advantages to contracting - especially if it is close to home. I am saddened of course that you might be keeping more regular hours than usual.

Now and again I am phoned by an agency offering contract work for "substantial rewards", I have tended to ask them what they mean by "substantial" - do they mean an amount which is merely profane or well and truly offensive (ie worthwhile)? Problem is in my line of work, that usually means working in some hell hole that noone else is prepared to consider. Sounds as if you are much better organised. Enjoy and here's to the next BOLOC run - be it in better weather.

Yep. A meeting on the Aurora sailing down to the channel islands with all food and "comforts" laid on for free.

I am only jealous!

Yep, I was in bed by 10 last night and I havnt seen my car in 24 hours.

Contracting is a neccisity for me. I hate company politics and I am very bad at being managed. I am also very bad at being managed. Contracting means I can avoid these uncomfortable situations and concentrate on the job. I have had a lot of luck with a couple of years of contracts that are close to home, there have been times when I have been forced to do 6-8 hours commuting per day on top of a long work day. Contracting is also my choice because I am VERY bad at being poor.

Did that once as a vendor ... trying to pitch to a bunch of pissed up IT folks in party mode was totally pointless so I joined them
