Passenger footwell discovered to have about 1/4" of water in it this morning. Hard roof is on and no obvious signs of water comming in from roof, particularly as drivers side footweel is bone dry. Anyone else had this problem? Anyone work out a solution?

Are you absolutely sure there isn't a trickle of water coming down from the front left corner of the roof - by the top front of the passenger window - this is a common problem! Can be fixed by a variety of methods including a bit of black silicone gel. If it looks like this - let us know and we can give you detailed ideas for a cure.

I have water drip in from there too...I would be interested in where to stick the silicone to cure...

It looks like it comes in from where the passenger sun visor is bolted on (incidentally with massivly oversized bolts - what happend to performance through light weight!?)

Cheers

Not sure I'm afraid. I certainly wouldn't rule this out although I did not notice any sgns of water finding ts way from the roof down to the footwell. If this is a known issue with a simple solution I would appreciate any guidance you can give Shangani. Thanks.

Wearypanda - I have the same problem at the moment - as a test, put a towel on the sidesill on the passenger side - if it is we later - bingo.

There are a number of possible remedies. I bought some black silicon sealant from halfords and thickened up the seal on the bodywork and then put a bit on the front end of the roof support - (don't know the correct name, but the solid brace you click in over the door window) I will try to post some pictures, but it is a work in evolution - seemed to be dry inside today (leak is a recent problem). Care must be taken to trap the rubber seal at the leading edge of the side windows when you close the door.

Also try this:

ah - yes, front of side struts - things you can do there...get some black silicone sealant and (neatly) go around the join on the end of the cant rails, where plastic meets plastic and plastic meets fabric etc. Just go around all the joins with the sealant, finish off neat with a damp finger (oo-er)and that should sort it.

Good luck - there is an article I bookmarked somewhere - will try to find it and post a link.

Thanks hugely for that. I will try the towel test and take a look at these seals tomorrow.

I'm not being sarcasic when I say this but putting a cover over it will help massively. I know it wont treat the cause of the problem but it will help keep it dry especially if it is spending a lot of time outside eg overnight. You get get some all weather covers from ebay, I know they are a pain to take on and off, but it will help. That is the situation I have with mine, I have a garage but its not always possible to keep it in there.

Nick, I have a storm cover and will use this more regularly as I am sure it will stop this sort of leak. I would prefer though to not have top rely on this, so will try to track down source of leak and stop it.
