Hurricane Induction
Discussion
ITG's just a carbonfibre box, although there's a carbonfibre Hurricane.
Hurricane uses a cotton filter, ITG a foam one. Main difference is that foam ones disintegrate if not kept clean, cotton ones just don't perform as well but don't fall apart.
Performance wise they're pretty similar, although Hurricane's noisier. But as I said before, I don't know if a 111R version of the Hurricane has been produced.

Boggy, another point to note is that there's no hole for the sensor on the Hurricane so you'd have to drill the body of it or find another place to mount it (Kev did you need to fettle yours on the 111S?).
ITG has a sensor mounting point. If you've got the cash go ITG, if not talk to Yvo Tuk on SELOC (who runs Elise-shop.com) about the 111R version. IIRC, he developed and supplies the Hurricane (which you can also buy from Geary via eliseparts.com and various places like Sinclaires in the UK).

Hi Tim,
Yep had an E-mail this morning from him there currently finalising production and it should be available in about a Month, I just can't see the point in spending all that money on a ITG ? there's one for sale in the classifieds thou so I might give them a shout

A month's not that long to wait dude - it's taken you over a year to decide whether or not you want a Stg 1 can on the bloody thing, another month won't hurt
LOL !
My man at Lotus has said that it's a waste of time buying a Stage 1 may as well buy a Stage 2, I should have £700 quid to spend in the next week or so I'll decide then. Don't want to draw to much attention so I might still go for a Stage 1

I do not trust paper filters. They are hard to clean properly and technically VERY difficult to get a paper filter to get the small and very abrasive particles without getting clogged. The efficiency of paper filters decreases rapidly and due to thier tendency to clog they use an open fibre structure that does not stop the particles you really need stopped.
This may not be a problem in the short term but long term engine efficiency / life is not good.
A good foam filter has far greater surface area and the density of the pores increases towards the outer edge of the filter. This means that a large variety of particle sizes can be effectivly stopped. They are also easier to clean. Good detergent and re-oiling they are as good as new. Also because of the large surface area presented by the foam means they are effective for a longer interval between clean's / servicing.

Heard a Lotus Stage 1 for the first time this Sunday. It sdifferent to standard, but not a lot.
If what you want is a change in the noise rather than Volume, then I would suggest the Larini.
If you want both noise and volume then the stage 2.
As to induction kits, what do you want to spend. There is quite a bit of difference in the price of the Hurricane and the ITG. However you do get what you pay for.

I do want a fair bit of Volume at the end of the day, been reading about the hurricane and it's developed on the car for the car, is there anything else available don't want a K&N or something that just drag's the air from the engine bay

Hurricane uses a cotton filter so no problem with cleaning or efficiency.
Who on here has changed the induction on a Toyota-engined car themselves? Had a look in the engine bay of one after I put a Hurricane on my K and image it could be a pain: the intake's halfway down the engine at the back and the coolant expansion tank sits over where the standard airbox is. Is is easier to access than it looks?
I was thinking of going down the induction route, but my insurance premium was daft for just a glorified air intake, granted I'm not paying all that much at the moment, but it was somethin like a 40% increase.
Another thing to consider is Warranty. The Lotus person I spoke to mentioned that they would find it hard to believe that the Lotus company would honour the engine warranty, if theings started to go wrong, once the kit had been installed. This wasnt a absolute, just his opinion
