Hi

I am hoping to buy my 1st Elise. I have seen one for sale at Lifestyle Cars in Bournemouth, Yellow T305 OVG. Could any of the BoLOC boys let me know what they think of the dealership and the car if they know it.

Many thanks

Sorry, never heard of the Dealer or Car.
What is the car specifically, whats the history as far as they are telling you it. How much they want for it.

What ever happens, get it inspected by a Lotus specialist. Not just some mechanic from the AA.

Its a standard 1999 Elise with upgraded interior (111S leather seats and carbon fibre trim), sports exhaust, 1 owner, 38 000 miles. Full main dealer service history, although it appears to have been done i/a/w mileage NOT age, ie although it is 6 years old the canbelt has not been changed. RAC inspected and RAC 5star warranty for 6 months. He wants £10 250.

Hi Pilgrim, I have never heard of this dealer and I am sure that none of the BoLOC's got thier car from there. Before you decide go have a chat with Chris down at Westover in Poole. Most of us have him to thank and the service we have recieved has been incredible. They have really taken care of us BoLOCs.

If you want to come and meet us and have a chat about what it is really like to own a 'liz keep an eye on the BoLOC threads and meet us, we will always help.

Sounds like a good price for a dealer.
Sold my S1 '99 for £11k recently.

Looks like it is near castle lane west:

www.britinfo.net/T/1026957.htm (this gives a location & map)
www.lifestylecars.co.uk (their own web doesn't give away location)

They've got quite a nice website and you can view their stocklist.

good choice of car.
for a very resaonable fee, Westovers were kind enough to check out a cople of cars (prior to me buying one somewhere else!) - that was before Dominic left but I think you should consider the money well spent on a checkup.
there are a lot of elises out there - don't worry if this isn't the one, sometimes you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your princess.
if you want a chat email me.

I'll second DeliveryDave's comments you MUST get it inspected independently. Westovers or Sportomotive at Salisbury ought to be able to do this for you. The Elise is a specialist car and an RAC inspection may not pick up on some of the er.. shall we say specialist items.

I would also heavily advise that you get the Cambelt changed before you buy it, at 6 years old it will need doing and it's 400 quid, unless it breaks when it will be a lot lot more. S1s are also prone to head gasket failure, may be wise to check if it's had one and that the current one is OK.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info guys. I am looking at the car tomorrow. Lifestyle Cars is in Southbourne.

What would a specialist look at that an RAC inspection wouldn't?

Will seriously consider contacting Westover for an independent check.

I disagree - sounds like it hasn't been looked after properly (service schedule has not been maintained from what I read above) and it hasn't had the cambelt service at the appropriate interval. I doubt the warranty is worth much from a non-Lotus dealership (or specialist).

Read what an RAC check does and you'll realise it's not worth the paper it's written on. They don't even put the car up on a ramp and for a car like the Elise a huge number of issues or non-issues could be (mis)diagnosed if the person checking it doesn't know what they're looking for.

Given that the Elise market is so bouyant at this time of year (check the classifieds here - some 180+ cars for months) you'd be crazy not to look around if this is the first you've seen.

Best of luck though.

I Bought mine from him, he deals from home near castle point.

My car was superb, he spent £1200 with westover doing the cambelt and Major C service prior to be buying it. I paid just under 12k back in May, and it came with a full Loyus history although the warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on.

I saw a couple of ropey elise's before I bought mine, it really depends on the car not the dealer.
