Hi owners..

Does anyone know the signs for a broken wheel bearing? I think the rear bearing is worn out. I had a front and rear replaced a few months ago as they failed the MOT. Anyway, something is quite noisy when rolling down the road. Just had a set of new tyres fitted so I know its not them. I jacked the car up the other day and if you spin the rear wheel, there is a slight crunching sound sometimes. Front sounds fine. There doesnt seem to be any play in them either, just lots of noise. Any suggestions???

Sounds fairly strongly like the wheel bearing - probably better to just replace it. Not too expensive: £26.96 Have a look here:

www.eliseparts.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=133&products_id=313

www.sandsmuseum.com/cars/elise/information/misc/manual/elise%20service%20manual/a1111t0327_3_part_2_of_6.pdf

Cheers and good luck getting it sorted as painlessly as possible.

Yes, but wheel bearings are not covered as for some reason.

Not on the elise but my Mini would make a whirring noise that got worse and worse.

I'd also replace both sides, as about 1 week after replacing the LHS the RHS went! Must wear relatively evenly.
