There is a HUGE fire in a scrap yard in an are called Alder hills. This has taken out all the main overhead power lines and Bournemouth is blacked out. The radio says over 75,000 houses blacked out.

Unfortunatly we have a fuly functioning UPS so we are carying on (poo)

I will have to go put a few sachets of sugar in the diesel for the UPS.

You guys do live in such a cosmopolitean town! Fires, smokey and the bandit etc etc. I like the sugar idea - was once very tempted to put some in the petrol tank of a bloke that crunched my wife's car while parking and then denied all despite the green paint on his brush bar!

There is all sorts of trouble round here. The other day some pi$$ed off bloke went and got his wifes 4x4 with the intention of swiping the number plate off the back of a police car that was parked by a speed trap, attaching the numberplate to the 4x4 and cruising the local speed cameras.

As I was told the story, the speed trap has "dissolved" by the time it took him to get the 4x4 and the tools.

The guy seems a poor looser.

Wow, the whole place is shut down. All the shops have shut, only a very few places have UPS so everyone is on the street and walking home!

Power is off again. To conserve fuel for the UPS they are shutting down the building.

Oh NUTZ, my garage door is electric, how am I going to park?

Drove round Sandbanks, Canford Cliffs, Westbourne area, Bournemouth town centre, Charminster/Winton, past the University and up through Wallisdown last night at about 20:30.

Power completely random. Sandbanks completely blacked out but parts of Bournemouth okay. The town centre was in complete darkness except for the Portman building which was lit up like a Christmas tree. All shops, pubs, clubs, cinemas etc deserted. Police vans about though, keeping a eye on things.

Charminster in darkness - very eerie - usually a hive of student activity but hardly a soul about.

Lansdowne was interesting since there were no traffic lights, ditto middle of Charminster.

I wondered if any of the speed cameras would have worked??!! Didn't try it though....
