Hi all,

Don't even think about buying a V8 unless you have shed load's of money & I do mean shed load's, they cost a fortune to maintain and break very easily either a 111R/Exige or a Honda engined S2 that would be my advice at least your going to have reliability, in the long and short run a huge amount cheaper to. Speak to any specialist before you decide, fantastic car the V8 but far to expensive

I've had Elise & Esprit (not V8). Would consider a GT3 perhaps. But nothing beats the Elise I'm afraid!

I agree with that, and also because I don't like the headlights flip up things in a Esprit, its bad for cw drag and old fassion?
For me it would be the elise(with hardtop)240hp<>300hp or exige 240hp<>300hp or when the money grows on a tree a Ultima GTR640 or the new Gumpert Apollo and some other leightweights.

Esprit Sport 350 - would murder pretty much anything on four wheels. Unfortunately I'd need to sell a kidney to run one.

just get a 300bhp Elise - fast as a 350 (if not quicker) ...but running costs of an Elise...in fact my last service was £90 on my Honda engined car

Will murder Elise or EXIGE?
In what way? Road (rage)race? straight way? short-long distance?

Elise easily, Exige probably, on almost all circuits, 1/4 mile to crossing Europe - a genuine supercar.

Bogie's idea is cheating Out of interest who services it - I guess most Lotus places wouldn't know where to start?

Hard to argue against that

Yep,

V8 would probably be around £900 by the time they'd sorted out all the extra little niggles, you'd then drive out of the garage and the clutch would go I'm sorry I do love them but I've had first hand experience of a repeat offender down at Ntc car's they are total nightmares and just don't stop hurting you (Pocket)

Have had an esprit 4 cyl for 3 years then moved to a 111R.
Esprit is a beautifull car, lines are perfect except pop-up lighs but cabin is old fashionned and quality is far unedr what it should be.
Performance are splendid on speed way or straight line. In straight lines, V8 is as good if not better than 111R.

BUT
if you are affraid of speed ticket or have to turn tight sooner or later,... the Elise is the best and ONLY choice.
Quality is better, handling is very good (speaking about handling, the esprit is very pure and precise, probably the best point on the car)
During Lotus days , in B road the esprit let the elise overtake because they can't stand the pace...
So the question is more the use you plan. Speedway and long - mid trip: esprit.
Twisty and B roads: enjoy the elise

Nah, I'd still go Honda. The gearbox doesn't go "OH FOR F**KS SAKE" every 500 miles for a start

PH emails got sent to my junk folder in Hotmail. Sorry mate. Have repied.
