On my way to the parents on Saturday to put the liz away for the winter when some guy ran into the back of me!! The last drive of the year and this happens!!

Anyways, the guy has admitted full responsibility so should be ok. However, he did request we dont go through the insurance as he didnt want to lose his no claims. I did warn him of the costs but he still made the request. The quote.......£5800!! Not cheap!!

The damage consists of the rear clam and the exhaust. Surprised me the cost of such a repair!!

In the meanwhile, ive been given a courtesy car of an MG TF 160. What a bag a w@nk. They are aweful. The first drive I put my foot down, then waited.....and waited....and waited for the power to kick in. But it never came!! Throughout the rev band there was no anticipated power, just flat all the way through. RUBBISH!!

Anyways, liz is out of action for about a month so I am stuck with the MG. What fun!!

argh what a pain!
at least it would have been away for the winter anyway and you can get all the salt and crap on someone else car!
He seriously wants to pay for it himself? how much is his no claims worth, i doubt £5000, sounds abit dodge to me. I presume he still gave you his insurance details anyway though?

that was the gist of my point... no one would even pay over 1k for a claim i would suspect.. unless they have a fleet or supercars insured! made me think that perhaps he wasnt insured and will either pay you or wont.. so hope he does!

Luckily he does seem to be insured. I got my insurance company to check his details out and he appears to be covered - thank god!

I just want her back now, wrapped up warm and safe in the garage for winter.

I would claim through his insurance. I got into a situation like this a few years ago and I really had to pester the guy to pay up, and even then he paid in small installments..

£5800 is a lot more than a clam and an exhaust ?

Trust you have something from the guy confirming that he will pay and he knows the expected cost ?

labour and 'paint n materials' seems extortionate - normally bodyshops have cheap rates for insurance companies...say £35-40 ph ...so thats 40 hours labour to do a rear clam!!?? ..and paint is £80 a litre ish....a few litres should do the job

anyway - as long as hes paying it dosent matter

I was thinking also the same about that...maybe some bodyshops whanna get better too from that when there is an insurance companie who pays the bill...but as long as they pay no problem for you...
