I was looking for some data on the net and then I saw this, a smg shifter(Sequential Shifter) for a elise or exige, looks nice and the idea could be good? but how does it works? that I could not find.
Anyone have this on his elise or exige? the price is 3.000usd so around 1.670gbp? when it works fine it could be an option when you read the article for some cars...

I does look like an interesting solution.

I would guess that its a push forward/back stick that just actions the same gear change as a manual stick on the gear change linkages. And the extra thing by the stick shift probably is used to reset back to neutral.

You can see the counting gear wheel that gets moved a click during the action of the stick. The toggle forward/back and the left/right to simulate the normal gear action is not a complex motion to replicate.

but with that shifter you would still have to use the clutch so what's the point?

You do?? hmmm then there is not that much point...because otherwise when you did'nt have to use the clutch, it could be handy on a track, when your not a master in heel/toe action, that way you could brake with your left foot and blip the throtle with your right foot when shiftig gears down before a corner??

For £6000, you would expect it to do the clutch action as well. There is a changer + software available for the radical that does the throttle blipping automatically on downchanges. Once the drive by wire throttle etc is available, these will come into the race market more and more (and probably get cheaper) The throttle control for the radical is about £600 AFAIK.

That throttle control seems to be a good idea when downshifting! that way all control(foot) for the brakes an clutch as usual and the blipping aranged by the computer when downshifting...so that means in the new 2006 elise/exige with throttle by wire it could be an option for that too? hmmmm sounds very tempting...don't know for dayly use though, but I think oké or switchable?

Is the clutch not just for setting off? i.e the same as a bikes 'box?

Just to clarify, I meant using the sector 111 shifter you would still have to use the clutch.

Using the Janspeed sequencial box you wouldnt have to use the clutch but they are very noisy as they are intended for race applications.

So the 3.000,- 111 shifter is no real smg only an easyer shift but still using the clutch...oké so lets forget that one
But the expensive 6.000,- janspeed is a very noisy one...hmmmm oké forget that one too..
Anny other good options without using the clutch in the elise/exige? or does that new racing exige 2006 car have a nice shifter...and 289hp...a around 700? kg...yummie

I had liked the idea of the shifter, have a look at the bellow these are similar to the Sector 111 shifter.

But $3k is too high but I have been told more affordable options may well be available in the UK soon

I drove one of the Strathcarron's before they gave up and it had a sequential (Triumph bike) box with a clutch. You could do clutchless up changes but needed the clutch coming back down again. It was great though, the sequential action was so fast and had such a good feel to it.
