As I have been smacked up the derriere I need a replacement exhaust. Choice is either Belle and Colville or official lotus.....which should I get and why?

I have an S1 and lots of people have gone for the Larini which by all accounts is a good system but they have serious issues fitting it.

I have a Christopher Neil system, it is made by them in house it costs £250, its very very light, fits perfect and sounds awsome.

I would make the trip to Christopher Neil and get one of those systems.

The Chris Neil one I think is always touted as the cheap 'n' cheerful option. Very light and 'poppy'

Don't think you can go wrong with one of Gearys' :

Also, make sure you get them to check the manifold to... just in case:

Buy, fit, enjoy

No problems fitting a Larini to an S1 - Lotus changed some of the mounts on late model S2's. Also consider the new Janspeed.

Yup as mentioned it was only on the very recent S2's that some mountings were moved that Larini did not know about.

Do a search for "Larini" in this forum and you'll see many posts. Also, look for a guy called Esprit - he did some very good videos of his S1 with Larini exhaust, so you can hear what it sounds like

I have the B&C one on my S1 Elise and it sounds fantastic. I know the larini is well supported but it seems a lot of people havent heard the B&C. It seems a rare choice. tell you what, I'll try and get a sound clip up on PH in the next few days.

Bell & Colville exhaust was on their rack at £450 last week - seemed a lot. Certainly the S2 version sounds good and looks just like the Larini clubsport.

This is great information guys. The choice seems to be be endless so I now feel more confused than before!! hehe. All seem to be favourable to most of you, especially the B&C and Chris Neil. Nobody seems to have mentioned the official lotus one, is this cos its sh!t?

Here is how I would break this down

1: Eliseparts.com. Probably the lightest available, pretty expensive but its engineered to very high standards - in many peoples view, the best for the S1

2: Quicksilver, slightly heavier and slightly less noisy, more tuned exhaust note, but still well built.

3: Chris neil, sounds as good as the eliseparts exhaust when on full throttle but a little farty soounding at tickover.

4: Official Lotus is actually a Janspeed supersport exhaust, its expensive direct from a dealer and cheaper from someone like PTP or Hanger111. Not the best in my opinion. Mild steel ones had a tendency to give up due to rust quickly. Only offered in stainles steel now AFAIK.

If you had said earlier i would have popped up to Jude Performance Services to let you have a gander at my Eliseparts item.

Agree with the above - however, Janspeed have just released a new range (in the past few weeks) which are way better than the old ones - good feedback so far.

get the one from Eliseparts.com. That's what I'm going to replace my Lotus Sports exhaust with.

Larini... no question about it. Costs quite a bit but well worth it.

lots of people say that although few people seem to have experience of the B&C one....

...I have, had one on the T79 before Mr Fester killed it. A lovely piece of kit, superbly put together, gorgeous note at all revs, and with a Hurricane

IIRC the Lotus Sport one is a Janspeed. The Eliseparts one is good but v noisy.

If you don't mind the extra cash, the B&C one is a lovely piece of kit.

Im thinking of the B&C one, they do sound nice but as mentioned in this thread they are expensive. However, its the other guys insurance company that has to pay for it so no real problem there!
