I've heard this is pointless and actually can cause a drop in power. Bollocks or fact?

Fact, something to do with back pressure bein lower with the CRP. Cant remember the exact figures, but 5bhp sounds familiar

VVC engine needs back pressure - there is a small drop in power (3-5 bhp), cat needs to be replaced for MOT. More noise though - if you want noise get induction and sports exhaust.

oooh I has mister! Got the Hurricane and Larini, just passed by a CRP when someone said it's no gain for a 111S. Loud enough as it is don't you think?

enjy -

Several people fairly knowledgeable in the industry reckoned that for a 111s, a sports cat was not going to offer anything over the standard cat. They all said "waste of money". That does not however apply to the toyota engine, or I am sure some of the other K series variants.

I had a CRP on mine for a day when I bought it. Put the cat back in and it feels better. Don't bother putting a crp in.

A sports cat costs a lot and you gain about 1-5 bhp. Buy cams with that money or have the head dirty ported at DVA and get around 10 bhp.

Might be just the noise but mine definitely feels better with the CRP on.

Each year at MOT time, cat goes back, no perceptable increase in performance. If anything, it feels a little down on power. I know this goes against what has been said, but I'm going on my personal perceptions.

For me the CAT (and the proper sports car soundtrack) stays!

I'm the same. Mine 'feels' better with the CRP. I can't honestly say I notice a power difference (either way) and I'm sure the 'feeling better' is psychosomatic and noise-induced, but it's more satisfying to drive with the CRP. Personal preference I guess, unless you are chasing higher BHP figures.

Anyone know what the CRP does to the standard engine in terms of out put?

Do you need a remap to reap the rewards?

Nick,

Not a great deal - few horses maybe.

No remap required.
