The backend snapped out coming off a roundabout (and no, I was not dicking around) - hit some grease and dirt or something - one minute I'm steering round to the right and the next instant without any warning the back swings big time to the left.

I went in in third (for traction and it's a fairly big roundabout), no braking and didn't lift off. Just nice steady entrance and I 've been round the same roundabout at that time of night all winter (even when it was icey). WTF?

I went back to the scene the yesterday and it looks like I must have instinctively got it back a little but the snap was too much, and when I had hit the kerb it all went pear shaped. I went on the verge and up and down a few kerbs and stuff - pretty crazy considering my speed 20-30mph. Looks like a write off. Which really sucks.

If I was acting the loon I could understand. But I am so careful. Example -got overtaken doing 20mph by an old guy in a Micra cause I was taking it easy first thing in the morning.

I am crying inside. My Elise was a very nice example and I hate the world right now.

Gutted for you mate. At least you didn't hurt yourself or anybody else. This is why we have insurance - try not to loose too much sleep over it.

Sorry to hear fella, it is easily done with conditions like those currently. At least no injury as others have said & that's what insurance is there to cover I guess

Hope you're back behind the wheel soon buddy

Gutted mate - cars can be replaced though - people cannot. Good luck and don't let it put you off sports cars.

Going to look at a Type 23 this lunch

You are all right - miss the Lotus like hell (even if it did nearly kill me). Driving a Golf GT TDi at the moment and it makes me sick.

Thanks for all the nice messages and a big thank you to Nervous (see the Porsche forum) for being a great help at the scene. Even if it did look bad when the police turned up and a 911 was sitting next to crashed Elise - just looked like street racing...

Happened to me once - although I managed to collect it, as it was a wide roundabout.

I am pretty certain that it was diesel spilled by a lorry combined with a damp road.

Unlucky mate, sounds like you probably really did have a diesel moment, it CAN happen.

Echo all the above - and I've been in one very wrecked Elise also, so I speak from experience - dust yourself off, wait for the Insurance payout and then go get yourself a new toy to play with ready for Spring.
