Which wheels for 111S???
Discussion
Morning all.
Went for a blast at the weekend...Crisp but satisfying!
I was reading the owners manual for my 03 111s and it said that the 6 spoke wheels (which I have on my car and actually prefer) are for the standard S2 and the 8 spoke ones which can take higher loads are for the 111S. It said you must NOT use 6 spokers on the 111S.
Is this so? Am I ok using the 6 spoke - which as I said I like better?
Thanks. Beau

Check the cam cover on the engine (larger on the VVC ie 111s engine) and check the rear window - there should be 111s stickers on the rear window. Ither changes apart from the wheels are a bit more subtle. None of the 111s cars should have come standard with the 6 spoke wheels, but there are no safety issues related to this, though the 6 spoke are a bit heavier.
Cam cover looks big though I don't have any comparison.
Stickers on rear window are 111S.
Log book shows 111S.
I bought the car from a lady who had owned it for 8 months having got it through Stratstones...I have her purchase receipt and all other receipts and Lotus PDI check docs showing 111S. Also came with body colour hard top, but didn't have electric windows. I think this is because it was one of the early 03 111S models - first registered April 03.
Before her the car was owned by Lotus Cars GB.
I'm sure it is a 111S, but is there a way of checking from the engine number?

Yes - definitely sounds like a 111s - cam cover is black iirc on the 03 111s vs red on standard around the same time. Also predates electric windows (same as mine).
Wheels should be fine. There are no suspension differences etc, so if you like the wheels, no worries, they are perfectly safe on the 111s, which is dynamically the same as the standard S2.
