How to remove S2 Heater Unit
Discussion
Hello All,
I seam to have a problem with my heater unit on my 111S S2.
When I put the heater fan on to demist the windows I get a burning smell in the car.
I am going to investgate over Christmas as the cars out of warranty and would like any information on how to remove the heater/fan unit?
Do I have to remove the front clam? If so is this an easy job? or is there and easier way to get to the fan/resistor unit.
Any help much appreciated
Paul
The heater system on the S2 is a pain in the neck. Many people have problems, Typically fixing the heater unit is a front clam off job - you simply cannot get access otherwise. Various people differ on how long this takes. I have heard someone on seloc say it takes them 30 min to get the clam off! Seems optimistic. I will try to find a few links to this and post them.
In the interim, as there is a burning smell, check whether anything is cooking on the radiator - take the front access panels off and check. This is a 10 min job which although unlikely, may identify a problem.

It is just as expensive to buy a warentee and have them sort out the car. Last time I checked the warantee was about 500 notes and so was a new heater matrix box thingy.
It is so expensive because the entire front clam has to come off. Buy a warantee, have peace of mind all year and the heater fixed.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I had a problem with the heater in my S2 111S and it was full clam-off jobby and took two days for the dealer to sort the problem (simply because it's such a pain to get to).
HOWEVER, getting the clam off isn't difficult (so i've heard), simply time consuming. So - seeing as it's Christmas (i.e. you may have some time); good luck!
