Hi

Im new to P'heads and was hoping to get some advise. I have been looking for a lotus for some time and am now in the position to purchase (happy xmas to me!) - However, before i do i would really appreciate some advise!

A friend in my village is selling his yellow 2002 elise 111s (the fast one i am told?!?!?!?) - its done 45K and he wants £14,500.

It seems to be in good condition and has FSH - he has owned it from new as well, my only concern is the mileage.

Do you think this is a high price to pay?
What do you consider a fair offer would be - i understand that prices are not to boyent at the moment?!

Any help greatly appreciated!
Thanks

That's the cheapest 02 111s I've heard of. It is a good model but gearing slightly too long for the car, but with 160bhp it doesn't show too much.

45k isn't a massive mileage as long as it has been serviced properly. Check it doesn't need a c service or cambelt change as you are looking at £750 at a Dealer. It is after all just a rover engine so mileage not a huge issue. You may get other wear and tear brakes, tyres, ball joints, wheel bearings but these need not be expensive at a specialist or if you are handy with a spanner. Worth having an inspection by a specialist (not the AA) for a Private sale.

Do it - you know you want too

Hi!
Welcome to Pistonheads!

www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?p=1&s=12

Take a look at the Elises for sale here on PH it will give you an idea of cost. That car sounds a nice price but, may I suggest, you don't sound like you've investigated much. Part of the experience is to learn all you can about the cars, and drive many, really understand if you want one (they are, for some, hard to live with everyday).

Have a search around this forum, using the search buttons above, and also on www.seloc.org (south east lotus owners club) where there are many frequently asked questions that can help you learn about the car.

If you have any more questions though, do ask!

Thanks for that. Do you know what prices they normally start at?
Also, is a cambelt something that should have been done at 40k?

it's difficult to say; servicing (for my S2 111S) is every 9000miles or 12 months; so depending on when the miles were done depends on what service may be next.

Hi Tony

I had experience of an S1 a number of years back and have always hanckered after an S2. The 111s is not one im familier with but the car looks really nice and i know the chap - my major concern was the mileage but if thats not an issue and its a good price i may jump in - being impulsive is just in my nature!

Are you two different people or the same person 80LSA/Markizok?!!

Anyhow; the 111S versus standard car can be summed up as follows;

156bhp vs 120bhp
Leather seats
Option of carpets
Option of air conditioning
More sound deadening
Different wheels

I think there is some other stuff as well but I can't recall (all that was from memory too, so don't hold me to it!).
Check through the FAQs on SELOC and I think on there is a defined difference between all the options and models etc.

I noticed that, it seems to have gone back on to Markizok. My sons called mark and he told me to use this site - maybe there is some confusion with our email address.

www.elises.co.uk/models/

Explains different model features....

45k done evenly over the years means the C service will be the next at 54k. Specialists like Sinaclires or Hangar111 do undercut dealers by a fair way without compromising quality so it need not put you off. Cam belt was reduced to 4yr IIRC - if in doubt change it !

Only other comment on the car mentioned is Yellow - it's a bit like it or hate it.

Things do wear but mileage only really effects the consumables I mentioned. Engine is fine at high mileage but some suffer head gasket problems. Being a rover unit you can get a whole new engine for £1500.

I've never spent more than a few hundred on repairs at service time. Suprisingly cheap car to run if you exclude servicing and insurance !
