Frikkin good start to the New Year! Jacking the car up this morning and the jack slipped and made a nice saucer sized hole in the fibreglass sill. Imagine my joy...

Anyway, as annoyed as I was at the time I suppose it is not the end of the world. Can anyone advise me on whether this sort of damage can be mended properly or is it best to completely replace the sill panel? Any ideas of the likely cost? The car is a 111R.

For the time being I am grateful for (almost) Saffron Yellow gaffer tape.

autch...

a friend was quoted 2500 for exchanging (removing, new part and painting) the sill, because it´s a messy job to get off. It´s glued onto the chassis.

He had it fixed at a local paintshop for 250.

Oooh my goodness; at £2.5k I think a repair will be the way to go. Can anyone recommend a good place in the South, preferably M4 corridor?

Just found Webbs in Bristol. They are specialist Lotus repair & service shop. They look OK. Anyone had any experience of them, good or bad?

Might be too far south for you, but CAM Body works, in Poole are excellent. Have a very good reputation in the Caterham world and did an excellent job on a damaged front on my 111R.
There is always Fibreglass Services too.

2.5k is total crap, a mate of mine from Kent Lotus did exactly the same and got it fixed for around £3-400 I think. It is a pain to get it off but easily repaired by any good fibreglass specialist.

that´s the difference in price of a fibreglass specialist and a Lotus dealer

James here

Had my sill reparied following a piece of metal flicked into it. About £350 odd from www.option1sportscars.co.uk/

Good service and brilliant workmanship

Hope that helps

They can be repaired if you can get to the back of it if it were the rear jack no problem, if it is the front I would'nt know.

Hi James. It was the rear jacking point. I was intending to take the undertray off, jacked up one side and was just about to put the axel stand under when the jack slipped.

That was for a repair following a slipping jack incident.
