Hello

Currently very interested in acquiring a used modified Elise in replacement of a +8 Morgan.

Car will spend around 9 months per year at my house in France and there's the rub. I can find UK insurance companies who will provide me with 12 month green card coverage on a non-modified car, and I can find UK insurance companies who will provide me with insurance for the modified car but only up to 3 months green card coverage. I cannot find a company that can do both.

Registering the car in France is a big no-no as it is modified.

Anyone out encountered the same problem or who has a solution?

Many thanks

Philip

Can you try companies that do overland tours..? Just a thought, but people take cars across europe (say landrovers, campers etc) for a number of months at a time - how do they get insurance...?

Also do the offered green cards have date limits..?

Give Autotorque a phonecall.. JohnO used to own an Exige and as a broker he specilaizes in high performance cars and schemes. They insure me and my honda'd exige.

Thanks for suggestions to date.

Tried Autotorque and they were able to give me a quote but the cost is prohibitive (12 month green card coverage more than doubling the premium).

Most other companies are just able to give a 30 day green card which can be renewed twice giving a total of 90 days coverage.

Any other thoughts? I'm quite prepared to accept just third party or tpft cover.

Hi - under EC Directives all policies must give the minimum legal cover (closely equivalent to third party only) for all EC countries plus a few non EC countries such as Norway and Switzerland and the same Directive lays down that no additional charge can be made so I suggest that you buy the cheapest TP only policy available. The insurance ompanies do not advertise this as they make money from selling Green Card cover.

My best friend owns his own Insurance Brokerage. They specialise in performance cars.

I could give you his direct email, he would be able to help you out, tell you if it's all possible, prices etc etc.

Email me darrenporter01@yahoo.com, and I'll send you his number, email etc.

I'm not doing this for a plug for his company, he deals in these types of questions, cars, and hopefully can save you some money. Not always, but much of the time.

cheers
