I think we need an objective poll here. I hereby propose that Gooby, his uprated pagid brake pads, his go-faster viper stripes and his replacement engined car show off his god-like skills on the Bedford track on 28th of Jan.

After the Walshy day, you will be half way there anyway. See lotus on track website for details. Offer extends to all other Bolocs members. Except maybe Lotusstuart and Twinpipe who have already proven their mettle and will be so much faster than me that it would be deeply upsetting.

Only joking Stuart - we need the Bolocs out on track - no laser speed traps on the straight either.

No timing allowed on trackdays anywhere - totally unnecessary anyway. If people do it, the indemnity insurance for the track is affected. The insurance issue may in the long term end trackdays altogether.

They used to alow timing, but not in the past few years. They are non-competitive, you drive at your own speed, overtaking only on the left on the straights and with the consent of the driver being overtaken. Lotus on track days are really well run in this regard. Courtesy is the name of the game.

I'm interested. For some reason the wife is being pleasant and letting me do this sort of thing.

Parents live in MK, so may do the BoLOCs airfield day, stay in MK and the go to Bedford from there.

How much is it all ?

£99 for the day. You need to join Lotus on track - this is a one-off of £30. You get 20 min free instruction as well. Later in the year Bedford will be about £200 for the day. It is the best place for a first trackday.

There is also a trackday at the Zandvoort racingcirquit in Zandvoort the Netherlands starting at 13h(1pm) on 11-02-2006 with free driving sesions from 20min each at a cost of 20euro(13,50gbp) per session, or 30euro's(20,20gbp) with a instructor! and you can sign in when your there...so its possible when its to busy you cant buy a 20min run?
Sounds good to me when its not below 7c or raining...maybe I will go, I want to do some trackdays in 2006, to get renewed experience and no tickets for speeding

http://members.home.nl/trheininga/pages/plattegrond_

But its also about 200km from my home but about 400+ from UK I think...anyone bin there before on the Zandvoort cirquit?
I had my first rounds there some 7 years ago in a just ready BMW M3 Compact (origenal a 316) but totally rebuild and did got the highest speed recorded that Big clubday on the end of the straight(and I was only having fun, not looking at times) doing 218km/h in the ticket free police speedtrap!(it could do real 285km/h on the road) and then hard braking and locking up the wheels sometimes when shifting down(no heel and toe) for a very sharp big corner that was my first experience around the track, I even got on the internet with a picture doing a flying lapp but I did not had a PC at that time, but people told me and saw my car, before I only had 1/4mile sprints and only straights and somethimes a small round cirquit runs with other cars...doing trackdays is very nice to do! but also a bit expensive for me..but great fun! but also a bit dangerous, I did go faster and faster what a great feelling, and then my runs where over...and that was better I think, before going to fast and crash..its adreline! pumping around

My driving skills are insignificant to my skills with my big gob. Lets see how it goes on the 27th. If I can show some potential, we will see where this takes me. Consider that whenever I do any karting I am usually in the last 10.

With my HUGE bill for countermeasures (that havnt been fitted yet) and the bill that is coming up will bankrupt me and if Mrs Gooby finds out she will use her arabic charm and I will be grateful if I can walk let alone sleep in my house.

The car is booked in for the 16th for the ding in the rear quater, re-spray the front clam and sills then a service, then have my stage 1 fitted and a shed load of other jobs. She is going to Kill me - if I am lucky.

Oh yes I want to re-finish the garage floor. I also have to do my deep diver qualification (180 quid just for the course) so I can legally do the 60m dives I have been doing and before I start there is £300 to 400 quid that needs to be spent on getting my kit ready for the season.

Oh crikey - I have the most expensive hobbies in the world

As she is so fond of pointing out - a disability is for life....

A few things I would add:

1) I will install your stage 1 for you if you like - that will save you a few shekels.
2) Too early in the season to dive surely?
3) The chances of getting hurt at bedford must be about 0.1% of the chances of coming to grief on a dive below 50m
Bedford is the safest track in the UK - we don't even bother with extra insurance because there is literally nothing to hit. Also, there are no further Bedford days on the Lotus on track calender ?due to cost. Having a lotus day as opposed to a general trackday means the blokes behave a lot better.
4) Airfield days are nothing like tracks
5) Cost is £99 - will be £200 later in the year.
6) If you don't want to drive your , come up with me, I have booked a 2nd driver. Hbaumhardt will be there as well as a few others from the forum. It will be a great experience.

Think about it - the day is filling up fast - will be fully booked in the next few days.

Whats the rules on spectators, at Bedford.
No way the wife is going to sign off on another £140. Would still like to come up and see the rest of you driving.

If you go up with someone who is driving, then no problem. You can share a car as well - ie free 2nd driver. Thats what I did with my neighbour Richard at the last day at Bedford. You would get loads of Pax laps even if you didn't drive. Several of us are going up from Reading / maidenhead.

So thats also where you get your passion for cars from? cars in those days where also less "safe" but you did'nt know anny better at those times, I'm glad the cars and circuits are a bit saver
I do not know many circuits(at least not where I driven on sadly) but when the weather is good that day I might take a look at Zandvoort again.

"Access will be limited to those with membership cards or passenger wristbands. We are only allowed 200 people maximum on site so unfortunately cannot allow spectators to this event."

43 driving spots left at £99, but happy to sign someone up as my passenger, costs £5. BYO lid else another £15 to rent.

And as a special added bonus this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to watch andrew and myself bicker endlessly about our new suspension settings, oops sorry did I already mention my new Nitrons

Is insurance necessary? I know its a `safe` track but is there anything you could hit (not including other cars!)?
I`m very tempted

Not really. I take track day insurance for most every circuit EXCEPT Bedford cos its *that* safe, you have to be a total monkey and really unlucky at the same time to hit something (if you are both of these, errm please dont come).

In >15 visits to the track the only "crash" I have seen was a Noble spin on a corner and 5 sec later VX spin on excatly the same corner take the same sliding path across the grass and roll into the Noble.

Infact the guy who runs Lotus on track recons that there will only be around 80 of 100 cars attending the 4 mile track so its going to be wide open for learning. Do hook up with us regulars and we can help you acclimatise.

Holdon what about wet and snow you may ask ? Again its one of the best driving places (as opposed to tesk or handling track) to experience such, and the benefit of the extra lube is that yuu burn less rubber during the day.

PS I'm not on comission
