How much for a B service?!
Discussion
I just got a quote from my dealer (B&C) for a B service. Now, my car was bought from them, serviced with them, warranty work done with them, sold back, i bought from them..........is it worth that amount (I've not said yet...want to see what you all say first)....just for a stamp?
Thoughts please peeps...what do you pay? (I'd do a search but it's temporarily disabled!)

You are getting the book stamped or are you having a service AND stamp? My A service is costing about £320 (IIRC)
not sure i understand your question; I'm having my car serviced (a "B" service), and the main reason I'm sticking with B&C is because of the car's history with them (rather than competitive prices
).
I think I just worded my post misleadingly?!?!
Anyhow - £320 for an A service, I'm not too horrified at £398 for a B service, then?! Does that sound about right to people?! When he told me for what essentially amounts to an oil /filter / spark plug / air filter change, I was somewhat surprised!!! (and it's a bloody rover engine
)
Thanks

Tony - if you have been quoted 398 for the B service, mark my words, it will work out at least 200 quid more than that. You will receive a call saying that the cambelt needs adjusting - 50+ quid, also, the brake fluid needs replacing - ka-ching (till rings). My A service cost me 420 with the recommended "annual" things. (No specific faults to be corrected). What if brakes are worn? Just be prepared - your bill will not be 398 (was that including VAT?)
Phone a couple of specialists as well - some are quoting closer to 250 for the B service and they will include the things that the dealers tag on as extras.

He said to me that's everything; VAT, labour, and I said "so when I walk away, that's the price I will pay?". Yup, he said.
To be honest, all that other stuff I can do myself (and will happily do..especially as my best mate builds R500 engines for a living!)...it's simply that I must go there for a service so it keeps the history intact.
There's no bloody way I'm walking out of there paying more than £400 !!

My worry about doing that is 2 things; firstly, the history, it's been a B&C car it's whole life, and secondly, the warranty!?
I've always stuck with main dealer servicing after a few nasty experiences in independant garages with a Celica Carlos Sainz and an MR2 that I used to own; but I do sometimes ask myself if it is worth it. If you're getting two £600 services a year and a specialist charges £400, then you're saving £1200 over three years - and would anyone pay that much more for a car with a full dealer service history as opposed to a specialist?
I've heard very good things about B&C service though - a friend of mine tried B&C and another main dealer when he owned his S1 and said that B&C gave a noticeably better service (though to this day a strange look comes over his face when he mentions B&C.. they completely drained his finances every 6,000 miles).

£300 plus for an A service? They must be having a laugh? The A service is basically 2 hours labour, oil, filter, sump plug washer and a few sundries. I dread to think how much a C service is.
I would take it to a specialist or try another dealer, as long as the work is done by someone reputable it won't have any effect come re-sale time IMO
Edit > Sorry, mis-read the thread a bit - £398 for a B still seems pretty steep but not quite so crackers. I've not had a B service on mine but it would probably come in at less than £200 at Fibreglass Services. Tony, as you're in Kent, it might be worth trying Maidstone Sports Cars?

Thanks Gary!
So, 259+VAT = 305...only £93 difference which 25% different which ISN'T as bad as I was thinking it would be (if someone said I could get a B service for £100, then I'd be annoyed!) but only £93 less, is not too bad.
At the moment, I'm sticking with B&C - but I will phone around a few other dealers to be sure!!
Once again - thanks to everyone for your input
