General query. I have what I believe to be the std alarm/ immobiliser on my s1. The alarm is not motion sensor just if doors are opened. I told Adrian Flux this when i sorted my ins last week, and they said it was ok, I got home from work today to find a letter saying the the std immobiliser is not thatcham approved and to contact some security firm to have one fitted!! When I was arranging the policy I said I didn`t think it was a type 1 approved but a type 2 cos thats what Adrian Blyth told me when I bought the car. The guy on the phone said that it didn`t matter as long as its std fit!

Does anyone know if std immob is thatcham approved?

Thanks

As far as I recall, isn't thatcham cat1 an alarm and an immobiliser and thatcham cat2 just an alarm? Go to thatchams website (google it) to confirm this.

Hi Stuart,

My understanding is that a Thatcham Cat 1 status Cobra 6422 alarm on an S1; may normally be easily identified by the black mass movement box situated between the seats, usually found Velcro'd onto the rear bulkhead.

Yes. If you have a car with a standard install immobiliser + alarm it's cat 1.

I was insured with Flux last year, make sure no one nicks your keys & your car, my policy stated i was not covered in this eventuality.

They were the cheapest though & the year went by without incident. Do a search on SELOC there are other things in the policy to be aware of.

Sorry mate, but if your aware of these things you should be okay.

see you friday

No black box. The alarm only sounds when the doors are opened! No movement sensor in the car.
Thats why I was told that it was cat2!

I used to be an alarm fitter and a cat one alarm has 2 cuts on the running side of the cars electical system, battery back up, an internal censor ie sonics or microwave unit, ignition cuts should auto arm after a few seconds even if alarm is not set. But most of all it has to be fitted by a VSIB installer. Then a certificate is given as prove of instalation.AAny questions please ask and i will try to help.

So on the basis of your feedback... it is as suggested Cat 2. It was factory fitted, so IS in fact Thatcham approved.

You could always contact Customer Services at the factory and request an alarm certificate - but the statement that it was factory fitted is usually sufficient for Adrian Flux.
