How do I get both back wheels of my S1 off the ground onto axle stands?

I've been advised against jacking one side of the car up, putting one stand in, then jacking up the other side. Is there a jacking point in the centre at the back somewhere that lifts the whole back end up? Or do I need to buy two jacks?

What about getting both front wheels up?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Si,

Best to do all 4 wheels.

Low entry trolley jack at jacking point "A". Marked with blue sticker on midpoint of side chassis rail.

Jack up one side.

At point C and B, insert axel stand, log, ream of paper (I use nice big logs with carpet on top).

Lower jack and repeat for other side.

You can't lift just the back or front up with a jack - you could use ramps though, unless you need to get the wheels off!

why can you not only jack up the back?

I've done it a couple of times and not seemed to have a problem?

Another option is to jack up one side and place an axle stand under the rear shock bottom mount. The jack can then be switched to the other side and the axle stand similarly placed.

Otherwise, remove the tray and use the two areas of the chassis that the large undertray bolts fasten into.

Or if you're feeling brave or stupid you could get two trolley jacks either side in the central jacking point and jack them both up at the same time...

I put a bag of cement on the front bonet and jacked up one side, put stand underneath, then did the other side. by having the weight on the front, it kept the front wheels on the ground. Gave it a good shake and it was secure too.

I jack up one side with the rear jacking point with a trolley jack (so both wheels on that side are off the ground) then put an axle stand under rear axle (not actually on axle but somewhere secure).

I think lower it onto stand which is enough so that front wheel of that side is on the ground. Then do the opposite side in same way and the whole back is then jacked up.

If you look in the "how to fit a larini exhaust" video in my profile, the first 30seconds is me doing exactly that!

Buy some ramps because if the jack or axle stand slips you are going to end up with a very big repair bill.

And they only cost £25 odd quid for a pair.

but with ramps you can't get the rear wheels off which is a big help for lots of things!

I couldn't use my ramps as the nose wouldn't clear. It also made it very difficult to remove the wheels!

I just jacked up one side then the other and used some spare (not Elise) wheels under the car with a plank of wood over the top then a layer of carpet. As the wheels are wide, I was less worried about causing damage as the load is spread over a wider area than using stands - still got to be careful where you're putting them though.

The front end does get a wee bit light when the wheels come off but you can get round it by careful positioning of the stands (or in my case wheels) just remember to put the front wheels back before the rears.
