you cant buy a brand new Honda engine very easily at all - I dont know of anyone that sells them. Low milers with all ancillaries/ECU/loom etc are around £2.5-3K max with under 5K miles on

generally the conversions cost around £9.7K all in with a warranty ....you can get them done cheaper, but usually corners are cut somewhere...I heard of a few 'cheap' conversions been done, most still have problems/niggles (that dont exist on the more popular off the shelf conversions) and at worst one completely went up in flames.

Doing it yourself is tricky at best - even if you can source a kit, engine, have the rights tools and knowledge it can take a long while as you dont know all the pitfalls/shortcuts..and you only end up saving about £1K in labour anyway...hardly worth the hassle/time/no warranty factor to me

If you really want one then id stick to going to someone thats done a few...drop car off, pick up 2 weeks later and enjoy the hassle free motoring

Look under faqs...here is a link

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=235588&f=15&h=0

Also the most prices are full pay...but by most of the conversion garage's you can get some money return if you leave there, all your ex stuf(engine/gearbox ectc) so you can px your stuf that come out! that can safe up to 2.5K and more...

SWorks, would you like to comment??????

Ok, I month ago you asked about exiges and elises where you said that it was the look of the car that you wanted and not the speed, and yet now you want to put in an engine that turns it into a monster. Have you seen the video clips of the S1 blink motorsport car?? It is shockingly quick.

We all did the walshy day yestarday and realised two things, firstly that my little car is special and not as far behind the 111r/ exige than i thought, and second that i need to improve my skills expliot it and finally how easy it is to loose it. it was one of the best if not the bast day of ownership so far but very humbling.

If its the conversion route you really want to take buy an standard S1 or S2 or 111s, play do some track and walshy days and then if you think its worth parting with £9+k for the conversion go on ahead. may be selling my 03 s2 later this year for about £19k and shes imaculate, one2one me if you want a look.

it is the look of the car that appeals to me.

However, the conversion was only a query as reliability of the k-series engine is the worry!
i would only carry out the conversion if the k-series proved to be very unreliable.

another question, how much is a basic A service and C service, and how often are these services carried out on an s1 exige??

there is a 1000 mile old K20A2 JDM spec for sale here for 5500,- Euro

www.komo-tec.com/product_info.php/products_id/391

JDM spec means: lighter flywheel, stronger pistons, higher compression and 220 BHP from stock

K20A2 is NOT a JDM spec engine

K20A is a JDM.

FYI new K20A's can be got, they add ~£2K to the cost of a converstion

I know that driver skill is the best way forward but after going out in the V8 bike engined car, I want that engine. It is probably the fastest car I will ever get to go in in my entire life. I would be scared sh*tless to drive that thing. its like star wars light-speed !!

twpbugger, can I suggest that you do some more homework.

Start with www.exiges.com and then search the archives here with any questions you have. I doubt there's a question out there on Exige ownership, running costs, problems, fixes, engine mods, conversions etc. that hasn't been asked and answered before.

Right, I've finally lost my patience with you. I thought you'd heed all the advice, the warnings etc. if you were genuine, but clearly my earlier guess that you were a sh*t-talking forum troll must be true.

With a few seconds searching your drivel my suspicions were confirmed - you've asked this already before in your first thread of nonsense and received comprehensive replies and directions.

On Wednesday 21st December 2005 on your thread 111r or S1 exige the following snippets were posted...

yes for what. im not suggesting that the engine conversion will be included in the 18k. i am suggesting buyin an exige for 18-19k and then converting it to a more reliable engine!!

what engine would you suggest (toyota or honda) and any idea on the cost of converting??

AFAIK you cannot retrofit the Toyota. The Honda conversion has been done on Exige S1s in the past. I would assume the Audi and duratec lumps would also go in as they are fitted to S1 Elises.

There are pros and cons for all 3 aftermarket conversions. Better to seek advice and do some searches on Seloc to be honest.

Costs vary but start at around 10k and go up to around £15k, depending on what spec you go for.

any ideas how much a honda engine conversion would cost then??

here you have already 1 in GB
www.blinkmotorsport.com/cgi-bin/site.pl?specs
and 2
www.brooke-kensington.co.uk/phond6.htm
and 3 a german tuner with 2.3 duratec compleet cost 11.800,-euro about 7.900gbp! cheap and you can keep or sell your parts...
www.komo-tec.com/product_info.php/products_id/394
and 4 also honda but prices are mostly simmilar
www.maidstonesportscars.co.uk/services/lotusHPE.asp
I got a lot more links of other conversions but I think those are the better deals, others are sometimes to exlusive(expensive) or audi..
good luck!

All the answers for you to review there from Rene, which you clearly were thrilled about:

cheers, thanks for the info!! most appreciated,

cheaper than i was expecting aswel :-)

Even I gave you a summation of what had already been said in case you needed a quick-reference:

S Works said:

To get an S1 Exige (even a tired one), get it setup correctly, Honda'd (even NA), will cost you upwards of 30K, at which point you could be driving an S2 Exige off the forecourt of a dealers or considering moving into TVR, Noble, Porka territory.

The approximate cost of an NA Honda conversion from Maidstone Sports Cars, with baffled sump, custom exhaust, manifold, remap etc. will come in at around 11-12k. If you want the supercharged version, 15k+.

So yeah, why don't you head off to exiges.com now and see how long they can be bothered to deal with your nonsense.

The original question in this forum was different of that posted back in december. the query in december related to an actual conversion.

This query related purely to the purchase of a new engine. nothing to do with a conversion being carried out in a garage.

i was merely asking whether it was possible to purchase an engine direct from the purchase line. evryone had given me a level headed response, until (s works), as in the previous forum alters the mood and gives me a grilling.

I belive that you are not here to help, but grill people with general queries to make u feel gd. nothing sensible to say, then just leave it alone. i have never asked for this sort of grilling response, and sorry you think of me as a TROLL.

just because u might have owned a lotus or a rwd sportscar for a nummber of yrs dont make u a specialist, and dont give u the right to abuse me like this.

Also fair, given that I always think of the good willing of people...and I hope you are.
I have no problems that people asking things over and over again, but also, some people can do some more research themselfs...by google around or just search under the forum.
But...personaly I have no problem with asking people, you can reply or not and there are no stupid quistions I say...so don't take it to personal, some had to blow a little steam off once in a while I guess, but I'm sure its not that hard mentioned as it looks.
Try to have fun, and just post the questions you have or do some research, and when you still have quistions open that question in that thread you found, that way it will look better, as they can see you did some research yourself first
Good hunting

If you had done your research, listened to what people told you already, paid heed to those suggestions and rubbed more than 2 brain cells together you would know without even posting that both questions in this case are one in the same. If you think you can buy an engine off the shelf and do better than some of the most respected and well organised specialists in the Lotus fold, then be my guest.

My mood is that you're wasting people's time, and as Rene notes, you need to do more research off your own back and think before you post. As a student in his final year this should be second nature to you by now. In the real world you'll have to deal with it on a daily basis. Stop being a baby and for heavens sake take heed.

I thought we had got there until this stupid thread.
