How can I tell (easily) if my S1 is fitted with MMC discs?

when you wash it, do the discs go rusty? if so, they're steel.

(you could also try a magnet on the discs)

The magnet should stick to steel discs but not to the MMCs btw...

If you've ever been in a position of taking the discs off, the MMCs are shockingly light.

Drive to the petrol station. Touch the disk. If you burn your finger tips you have steel disks.

Are your wheels covered with burnt on brake dust ? No = MMC, Yes = Steel

Do the disks still look almost new i.e no lip ? Yes = MMC, No = Steel

...or the magnet

Brilliant!

As an added bonus, if this happens, you'll be able to commit various crimes undetected!

Yep, should add that you can also burn your finger prints off on MMC's but you have to try much harder. A leisurely trip down the road to the petrol station say to check your tyre pressures won't heat them up sufficently.

My personal favourite test is the wet use, just remember to add another 75 feet to the braking distance and you are laughing

They look brand new, they don't give off much dust at all and haven't tried frying my finger tips yet! Oh yeah, in the wet I notice no difference to braking power whatsoever!

I shall try the magnet.
