How to get into a Lotus Elise
Discussion
Erm, i'm not gonna say too much about this (they may actually be on PH), but it's a video showing you how to get into an Elise...... Or at least one method? Appologies if this video has already done the rounds.
Go to http://video.google.com/ and do a search on lotus1492
Not the method i use anyway. Anyone else enter their motor like this?
Looks hard work to me?
The other Lotus video made me laugh, Should be called 'How to bait an F40 driver!'

Call me old fashioned, but that Lotus is being driven rather tidily on the track vid don't ya think? Good viewing anyway
The 'in, out' method clearly works for him, but not my choice either! Ok, have only done it a few times (that number will start to increase rapidly from 1st March though!
) but the back of my right leg actually plays a big part in proceedings for me, as opposed to his weight on the wheel and sill then haul leg in method
IIRC, isn't hanging off the wheel rather a bad idea..?

Lotus being driven tidily yes, Ferrari no
. Good luck with your March delivery! And yes my right leg is also used a little more getting in and out. And the weight on the steering wheel has got to create some 'play' in the column after a while?

That's pretty much how I get in and out, not gripping the wheel though
Ok then, I'd never seen anyone, (other than my Dad when he tried the Elise on once) get in like that? But each to their own, horses for course, whatever floats ya boat etc, etc

Cor I think he makes it look a bit awkward don't you?
Indeed!

Didnt realise how much more difficult it is getting in and out of an S1 compared to an S2! I'm never gonna complain about my S2 ever again!
Andy
I had an S1 111s for 3 years before I got an S2 111s last year. The S1 is a little more difficult to get in and out of but I didn't find that much difference. Still, I just thought the two video's were good, in rather different ways!

A touch off topic, but picking up on chrisjl's previous post...
The old circuit at Riems as seen in the photos from the Stelvio link - is that the track also known as 'Rouen' that features in the classic '67 PC sim Grand Prix Legends? Much of it looks very similar

I get in and out of my Elise without grabbing a hold of the steering wheel. I can't do it as fast as him though.
But not sure it's a good idea in the long run to do it like he does..Would it be bad for the steering wheel ? maybe not
I'll see if I can make a video of me getting in and out some day

place right hand on rollbar
with hands behind you , bend knees and slide down into the seat ....
Note : dont eat a large breakfast as steering wheel is only 3" from your tummy !!
Dont be tempted to grab the sides , very fragile .........and turn engine cut of switch to on position First.......
bugger ,,,,,always forgetting that one ...or you have to climb out again!!
cheers
Guys Guys Guys,
Trust me on this, feet first is the wrong way. Try head first then follow with your feet, this way you don't have to grab anything for support such as the steering wheel or windscreen frame which are deffinate no no's. So much more comfortable especially when the roof is on. I used to go feet first but thought I was doing damage to myself let alone the car.

In my experience of getting into Motorsport Elise (no soft top), door open as wide as possible ie. not very wide at all, left leg in, bang knee against removeable steering wheel (cant be arsed to remove each time I park), nudge the wiper arm meaning I get a smeared windscreen when I turn the ignition on, bend double whilst deftly banging head on side window (should remember to lower window before proceeding), bum ungainly inserted in door aperture, right leg firmly pushing my bulk into cockpit, fall gracefully into car puncturing my lung against the handbrake lever, right shin whacking the underside of the drivers door, buttocks moulding painfully around the rather large buckle of my 4 point harness, swivel body whilst dragging my bloodied right leg over the thankfully padded sill. Easy as that only takes three seconds, seems like an eternity.
Getting out is even more difficult, thankfully as my young nephew commented the beauty of the car more than makes up for how stupid I look getting in and out of it!!!
