Evening everybody. Yet another newboy here. Took the plunge last December and bought a 1999 S1 for use as a weekend toy. Well after a few exciting (!!!) moments in the wet I've been taking advantage of the recent dry spell down here in the West Country and been using the Elise as my daily drive covering about 150 miles a day in Cornwall. Its taken 25 years but I've finally found a car that betters my 1998 Alfasud ti for the sweetness of its drive.
Anyway I finally had the roof off today but it being a bit chilly put on a wooly hat - I'm sure I looked a right plonker, so - What headgear for the Elise?

fashion and warmth aside, a baseball cap is sensible, cos the peak is useful for shading your eyes from low sun at this time of year.

Welcome Tim

Nice to see meet someone else closer to this end of the island (I'm in North Devon). How far down are ya?

Did you mean '1988 Alfasud' not '1999'? I had an '83 Sud Gold Cloverleaf in '88 - '90 (...ah, happy days :-) Nah, plenty more of them to come soon!)

As far as headgear goes..? Humm... tricky one that! Not a big fan of hats myself. Cap seems to lower the IQ a little (turn it round and it slips off the scale!) Woolly hats or beanies seem ok, but even then they can ride up so you look like a cone-head or fit so tight it's more like Benny from Crossroads!

So, sorry fella, can't help ya there. I too will be interested to see what the rest of the PH world thinks

Now, where's that brown bobble hat Mum knitted me 25 years ago...

Woops! Don't know where 1998 came from. The Sud was a 1978 1.3ti. Marvelous little car that unfortunately dissolved after one shower of rain too many.

Hi Janitor. I'm based just outside of Plymouth and spend my days working Cornwall as a rep. With the roads we have down in this part of the world I thought it would be rude not to get an Elise.

Quite right too! Plenty nice roads in this neck of the woods... dodgy this time of the year and generally covered in 'cow droppings' too!

I'm near Winkleigh - will soon be needing very little excuse to shoot out on plenty of run-in trips... will try to head down

For the cold days/nights, one of these

I have one and it is superb. Not cheap as far as hats go, but worth every penny

Hey beachum, I have one of those too but with a BIG red R on front, but I use that sometimes in bed when its cold I'm bald(shaved) so its cold at night sometimes.
Also have a cap, but dont use that much, only when sun is very low because caps are also for some types of people I don't like(thin drug people with big nike's?)
and I have a origenal flighthead out the army its very practical, you can make 3 heads out of that! just a cap or withlowered neckpiece or open it and put the bunny things under your shin, very warm but you look foolish

Hi, good to see yet another Elise in the West Country, I'm from the Falmouth area and use my Elise everty day; if it isn't raining the roof is off. I use a Weirdfish Wooly hat, it's a close fit and seals nicely with my shades to keep grit out of my eyes as well. Don't bother with a hat in the summer since I have pretty short hair.

Make the trip to Plymouth fairly regularly since In-Laws are in Plymstock, unfortunately this afternoons trip is in sensible car since we're collecting Furniture. If you are flashed by silver A4 it's me.

Saturday looks like best day for roof off, once I've washed the crud off my motor; I'm sure it was yellow.

Don't do the Lotus cap thing! An Audi TT driver pulled up at some traffic lights next to me wearing his Audi hat - thought he looked a right chav!

Sorry Rene, just my opinion

Edit: To change Gene to Rene !

I'm not such a hat-man, so no cap...maybe only when I drive in a cabrio and thats just when its very hot and the sun will shine to long on my bald head but thats then just for getting burnt
But I'm not such a cabrio man(had some of them though) I'm more a coupe or GT man with a fixed roof or a hardtop please...like those lines.

The SELOC caps are nice. Subtle logo on the front, with "Lotus Enthusiasts" embriodered on the back (pretty girl not included!):
