How quick is a Series 1 111s ?

I went out for a run with a 111s in my 4.0 Chimaera recently. it was as quick as the TVR up to 100mph.

How quick area they 0 - 60, 0 - 100, 1/4 mile ?

Are they much quicker than a std S1 elise ?

roughly 0-60 in low 5s and a ton in 14secs ish

std Elise is 0-60 in high 5s and a ton in 17-18secs

to be honest its surprising just how much of a BHP advantage you need to make a difference in the real world...over a ton you would be pulling away easy though...the Elise hits an aerodynamic wall over the ton...you need loads of power to make and Elise quick from 100-150mph

o-60 in 5.38 and 100 in 14.3 secs.

o-60 would be quicker but the close ratio box has a higher first gear than the standard car. Not a huge amount quicker than the standard car until you get upto about 80. Then it romps away.

My B&C 160 Elise did a standing 1/4 half a second quicker than my Chimaera did the year before on the same strip. However, the terminal speed was 11mph slower (and at 99mph pretty much spot on your comparison). It would suggest that after a 1/4 mile/100mph the Chim was about to tear past but for a car designed for the twisties I was surprised at the Lotus/TVR experience on a drag strip.

They are quicker than you think.
I had a 4.0ltr Chim and then bought the 111s and there is not much in it. Up to around 80 they would be more or less neck and neck after this wave goodbye. However put a corner into it and the elise would drive under the TVR and off into the sunset.
I think that the Elise has near as much grip in the wet as my old chim had in the dry.

very true. For instance, 2 seconds 0-100 is a lot when comparing cars on paper, but in actuality you can barely notice it. I've always been amazed how cars on track days all power down the straights together.

The other day I kept up with a DB9 in my BMW 330! Ridiculous, but I can garauntee you he was flooring it! 30mph to ..err.. something else!

very true. Makes you realise you are a GJOB for wanting to spend money on engine upgrades and bits and bobs to gain 10 bhp when you see some drivers on trackdays in standard S1/2s that are lapping quicker than Exiges etcs all down to driver ability. I am no where near as good as my car and I seriously doubt many owners are. Put Walshy behind the wheel is evident enough that most would benefit far more from training than performance mods. But training isn't as silver and shiney

Indeed, I don't think Mr Walsh has any problems with the 120 ponies he has in his Elise.

I go for runs with the TVR club round here quite often in my standard S1 and I've been pleasently surprised to see those Griff 500s not pulling away from me AT ALL up until about 70mph. The early S1s are lighter than the 111S and as such up to about 80mph a good S1 will be neck and neck with a S1 111S. Mine's got a few go-faster bits and make-lighter bits so it's possibly not a COMPLETELY fair comparison, but I've managed to best the odd Exige on track... with MUCH crappier rubber!

In the end, a lot of it comes down to the driver... and Elises are an easy car to drive fast... most of the time

Tell the Griff owner his car is ed. There is no way on earth an S1 will keep up with a Griff 500, a mate of mine has one and he leaves me for dead in a straight line (especially uphill ).

As for the Exige - either he wasn't trying as hard, he can't drive or you can

when you put the same fast driver in those cars on the same track the standard say 120hp elise only could have a chance on a small curvy track...
though the elise is less a handfull in the normal driver area...easyer to the max attack.

Have you folks watched elises vs Griffiths on track? On most of the occasions I have, stock standard S1 elises were p*ssing all over the TVR's with the exception of a Tuscan R with non-standard suspension and tyres. Their exit speed out of the corners was 20+ mph faster than the TVR's. Straight line on the roads is a different story though. Similar to 70 vs the Giff (S2 111s), but left for dead thereafter.

The Griffs do get a whole lot better with decent suspension and brakes though. The other issue is that TVR's when properly corner weighted are a lot heavier than TVR claim. (As are later elises / nobles etc)

your partly right ofcorse, but when you put a race driver in a 120hp S1 and a race driver in a grif 500 or a noble and the track is a medium track the S1 standard will loose but not by much...on the Ring it will loose a lot!
but when you will put me in the lotus S1 and then in the TVR griff 500 on a small track I would set a better time in the Lotus S1 thats because it drive's better and feels more one with your body and with the Elise you don't need that much time to do more with the car, then in/with a TVR...
