Had my Elise for about 3 months now and am loving it!

Living in London I thought I would see quite a few others about to wave cheerily at but seems I was wrong. Porkers are ten a penny and I reckon I see as many Ferraris as I do Elises. So this begs the question................................

How many have been made so far? I am sure someone on here will have a full breakdown of S1, S2 and all the variants. For example I have the 111 and I certainly havnt seen any more of those about so would be intrigued to know how many of those were made.

Forgive me if anyone saw me today while I was driving to work and I didnt wave. I was battling to keep my car pointing the right way in the torrential rain with worn A048's on, trying to see out of the steamed up windscreen as my heater resistors have given up and avoiding the drips from my leaky roof.

DONT YOU JUST LOVE ELISES!

Humm... absolutely no idea!

But, I've been eyeing an Elise purchase since early December and have seen the princely sum of 1 (one) on the roads! I live in Devon though, so not exactly city-life, but have travelled up and down the country plenty of times in that period

On the day I ordered the Sports Racer, I saw 5 (five) TT's (my old car) in that afternoon alone!

And yeah, don't you just love Elises!

For all the variants, see www.elises.co.uk

For actual numbers I guess you'd need to speak to someone in Hethel.

there's around 5-10 registered here in Denmark. probably a lot sitting around without plates and only used for tracksdays.

180% tax is not exactly making it easy to get a lotus in this country

Prior to the 111R federal Elise I think it was about 14000, last year I think they made the 20,000 Elise worldwide thanks to US sales. I think theres around 10,000 on UK roads...still quite a rare car....
Compare - 10,675 Esprits in total; though it took nearly 30 years production to reach that figure. In other words sales averaged only about one car a day!

Compare - 30,000 Corvettes; every year for 50 years. About 80 a day.

Launching a new Esprit will be a huge leap of faith so you can easily see why worldwide sales of Elise need to be substantial in order to justify investment in the new Esprit. The Toyota-Elise is a truly great car and deserves to succeed. In USA the Toyota-Elise/Exige is priced almost as high as Corvette so must be very profitable. Similarly the higher spec' models in UK will make good profits as build cost can only be pennies more than the base model.

I guess it must be the time of year? I've seen a lot of cars this winter on my lunchtime walk - Ferrari 288GTO, 996 GT3 RS, Lambourghini Murcielago, Gallardo etc. However, I honestly can't remember the last time I saw an S2 Elise. I've seen a couple of S1s lately, but no S2s.

I've seen two NSXs this month - last I heard they'd only sold 460 in the UK! No S2 Elises though.. bizarre!

uk car sales show that Lotus sold 934 cars in 2005 up 6.3 percent on 2004 and 299 more than ferrari sold, aston sold 1796, bently 2096 and porsche sold a filthy 10542 cars , so yes the elise is quite a rare beast!
