Hi,all

I've noticed that quite a lot of you drive your Elises/Exiges etc. in winter. I always have a winter car and store my summer car away in a grage during winter.

This is probably because we have to pay an insane tax on cars here, so even an old Lotus is quite expensive..

But I'm curious to know if you'd still drive your Lotus in the winter if the price was similar to here ? . Here's som examples:

Elise S1 111,price new: 46k GBP

Elise S2 111, price new: 64k GBP

my 1998 S1 with 40k miles on the clock ends up costing me approximately 26k GBP , it's only so 'cheap' beacuse it's RHD

The price for a 1997 S1 that's LHD is approximately 37k GBP

Just reading through this makes me sad

Used mine for 6 years as the daily drive to work. Distances started at 50 miles a day, for 6 months, 100 miles a day for 3 years, 180 miles a day for 6 months, 130 for 12 months and now 30 miles a day.

At the weekend we use the wifes acr (2 rug rats) even so the car is now 97K.

For winter I have a hardtop (call me a girl if you want) when the heater gets warm nice a toastie, the soft top just lets too much heat out.

In the Ice and snow you just control the right.

You'd only get the price without tax ( so not much benfit in that).

The RHD ones are not worth as much as the LHD ones. My car would cost around 16K GBP without tax if it was LHD. So I bought a RHD to save money

Example: I paid 10k GBP for my Elise. To have it registered will cost me around 17k GBP (final tax not yet determined) on top.

had it been LHD the price would have been 16k GBP and the tax 20k GBP or more..Sad isn't it ?

I had to buy a RHD car to be able to afford it. Been wanting an Elise ever since 1996,so I just have to accept sitting in the 'wrong' side of the car..*sigh*

the standard 111R with no extra's cost here from 57.771,-euro(39.200,-gbp) but with some extra's its easy up to 70.000,-euro
Then when I read the Exige S will cost around 44.000,-euro netto, that means about from 80.000,-euro is the price we pay!! very sad indeed, we sre between 2 countries Germany low tax and England low tax...very very frustrating it is...

Thanks, your roads are very challangesing, and a world language I like, and ofcorse the many trackdays you can join and the lovely cars your country make's and the low tax on them!(hm, sounds good that all)but driving on RHD and for me wrong side of the road, also a points license and some other things its for me difficult to leave the things I know...also thought on moving to Germany with low tax and highspeed roads on some pieces...maybe one day when I have anough of Holland I go, but Í also think with a more "Europeën" thoughts all countries will look more the same in the future with taxes! its between now and 10 years??
