I've decided that to buy a rear diffuser for my S1 for no other reason than vanity although if it actually does creat some useful downforce that will be a bonus!

Anyhooo, just thought that I'd open it up to the Pistonhead massive and see what you guys and gals can suggest and reccommend?

Thanks in advance!

I have to agree that the 'stick-out' ones can look a bit tacky, I'm really after one that's pretty much flush with rear of the car?

I'm not sure if I will be able to get one that doesn't stick out any less? I've just had a lok on Eliseparts and there one seems to be pretty much the same.
I thought that if I had it painted in black it would a)match the black wheels that I have already and b)blend in and be a bit more understated yet quite 'tough' looking?

yes you can. The standard one sticks out less.

You want to look tough - tattoo "I ain't going in no plane fool" on your forehead and drive on the pavement knocking over grannies.

not really my bag to be honest mate, but its your car. I shall be taking the same attitude if I ever have the guts to get the eliseparts twin headlight conversion done.

Just had a quick look at the headlight conversion, I quite like the look of it with the headlamp covers but not so keen without. I'll stick with the diffuser thanks!

it'll probably never happen to be honest but I do quite like them. The money will no doubt go towards the emerald ecu and trackdays (cheers cuzza, thats £130 I have spent with LOT this morning )

But if you want to stick tat on the car, go for it

Cheers for that, e-mail sent.

I'm now wondering however whather the money would be better spent on something else? Perhaps towards some better seats and harnesses, sticky rubber etc..........

without a doubt, but its your money and your car mate. It may not be my cup of char, but if its what you want then go for it. My first few mods were all protective - driving light covers etc. The second phase was harnesses, harness bar and fire extinguisher. Third and most recent phase was tyres and 4-2-1 manifold. Thats the order I gave each item in terms of priorities, but that will differ from someone else. In amongst my mods were trackdays which probably rearranged the order I modified...

Stop whining - you'll have more money than god soon.

TBH, if you want a diffuser, get one. If you get a new one that's the same length as the old one, that seems a little pointless to me as it's a cosmetic change with little effect. The sticky out ones look a bit naff on almost all Elises as they are too high - have seen a very low, black S160 with a carbon diffuser and it looked great (and he probably had to replace it every time he went over a speed bump )

Well my car is very low so thought that it may look quite good? It's only really used for trackdays so ground clearance isn't too much of an issue anyway, although I have just seen some lovely seats on eliseparts which are only £470 each, hmmmmmm.........

For reference here's my car -

If its what you want, go for it. Having said that, if your car is used almost exclusively for trackdays I am surprised that you would spend your hard earned on a diffuser ahead of harnesses.
