My recently purchased S1 has now covered 42.5k miles but I'm a bit worried that I'm running on borrowed time.
I didn't really do enough research before buying the car and beleived the cam belt was not due for changing till 54k miles. I've now read that it should be done at 36k or 48k. Dealer that sold me the car will do the work if it was due before sale however am I going to have to eat humble pie having harranged him about misrep re the service history?

Tim,

The dealer sold you a 99 S1 with 42.5K on the clock and it hasn't had it's "C" service or a cam belt??

That is well dodge'

I'd get back there ASAP because at the very least your motor needs a cam belt. It's the years more than the miles that you need to worry about - 6 is really pushing it!

Have it out with the dealer as soon as you can or it could mean £££!!

I'd strongly second what dss123 says. Any S1 that has never had a cambelt is well overdue one. Get it done ASAP. If you're anywhere near the south coast, Fibreglass Services are superb and won't fleece you.

Elises generally aren't TOO bad on cambelt age, 6 years isn't too bad if the miles aren't sky-high, but you're starting to push your luck if you leave it any further.

Answer from Lotus today. 54K or 4 yrs whichever comes first. Good news as well. Dealer rang me this afternoon. Lots of apologies, c service and cambelt will be done as soon as possible. (The're moving so two weeks time).
