Does anyone think that there will be a proper equivalent supercharger kit for existing owners of Toyota powered Elises/Exiges?
I'm talking about the equivalent of the 220S or 240R. How much work is involved and how much is it likely to cost?
I'm thinking Exige 190 + s'charger fit as my next car. If I could afford the 220S I'd do that now, but I can't so I won't. Would it be worth waiting for 220S to start appearing second hand, or just go for an Exige 190 and wait for the upgrade (that may or may not happen). I don't think changing from a S2 111S to a 190 Exige will benefit me much at all, but a s'charged Exige then yes.
Try and ignore Honda conversions for the minute...

If anyone knew the answer to this at this point mate you'd have a million replies on here. Practically everyone who has an S2 Exige or 111R wants to know too.

Lotus are playing it close to their chest and the official line is that there will be no retrofit package. However, I do know that at least one S2 Exige has been retrofitted with an S/C, the problem as I understand it is more than just a bolt on and remap.

The S/C on the 220S is not the same as the one off the Corolla and ONLY works with the '06 electronic throttle. I also feel that Lotus are keen to keep the performance gap between the 111R and 220S which the new model will bring. With that in mind, I'd be very dubious about holding out for an official retrofit package and would start talking to aftermarket tuners if you're serious about going down this route.

Another spectacular Lotus own goal really, BUT you never know what's round the corner of course... ask any 240R owner!

Aye, agree with you there. There doesn't seem to be a real gap between Elise and Exige, until now with the 220S. But if a retrofit option becomes available, by the time that happens existing 220S Exiges will be available on the second hand market and run in. Surprised there hasn't been someone who's come up with this upgrade yet...

Bemani sells a supercharger kit for both Exige S2 and Elise 111R here in Switzerland which has ~260 bhp and should be EU-street legal in the UK as well. Performance is superb and 0-60 should be around the 4 second mark.

I say get an S2 and have enormous fun with that until a supercharger kit comes along.
When you have yours and have had it for a couple of months i recommend driving a supercharged one and see if you like the difference in power delivery.
I do miss my yellow one just for the Banshi like scream from the engine when on the move but liked the docile pootle when off the second cam. the supercharger is great but really changes the car.

Frankly I would seriously consider trying a Honda'd car - getting that engine in your 111S with the requisite other mods would give you a car which will comfortably outperform every standard S2 Exige that has ever rolled off the production line.

I doubt there will be an official one - have you seen where the intercooler goes? on top of the engine...theres little room for it in a 111R

The aftermarket conversions use a different type of supercharger/intercooler etc...thats how they get around the packaging issues

if you really want one then go aftermarket......

I am still nervous about some of the stories coming out of the USA about this, to seriously consider it yet. Also the car is stil under warranty so will wait until that runs out before I make any major mods.

The thought of pushing it upto 220, or even 240bhp has a certian appeal to it but until someone in the UK starts to do it, I think I'll pass.

Don't understand why you couldn't retrofit the 240 spec to an Exige. This spec was available as 240R with cable throttle and 240Cup with dbw throttle.

Maybe Lotus simply won't sell you the bits. Or maybe the price of the bits wouldn't make sense.

I think its a case of Lotus wont sell you the bits...you could try phoning Lotus Motorsport and asking them to do you a one off...dont expect much change out of £10K though

Yeah the original Pistonheads road test of the 240 Cup says Lotus Motorsport will do it for £8700. Ouch!

There is a simple choice....wait for Lotus to sell the supercharged kit which as others point out is unlikely to happen for marketing reasons or wait for the warranty to run out and fit one of the six aftermarket options, none of which bizarrely come from UK!

I guess that is because on the mainland europe or USA they need more power on the many straights we have to compete a bit better with the fast TDI's around here on the autobahn we sadly don't have that much curvy roads around here...
But strange it is...because when you see on the forum there is a lot of questioning and want to have askings about such SC item.

Having had long chats with Lotus directly, there is no way they are going to sell the kit as retro fit as it would they beleive impact new car sales... which is the business they are in after all....

I chopped in my S2 for a 240R and am chuffed with it, and finally, the S doesn't upset any 240R owner as an S with 2 way Ohlins, light wider wheels, accusump, aircon and all the other toys comes up to about the same price... without the limited edition and 20hp...

Re-read my post mate. They won't retrofit the 220S package because you can't without the 06 electronic throttle etc. Like bogie says, if you have money to burn and nothing between your ears Lotus Motorsport will retro you the 240 pack, but it'd probably cost almost the same to buy a proper 240R on the used market and get all the other bits.

Lotus will only retro fit the supercharger to NA Cup cars, even if you say price no problem they will still not fit it to a standard S2... I really did try hard... and I've got some good friends at Lotus Sport... it's unbreakable corporate policy for the foreseeable future...
