In general terms I know 25k miles isnt a great deal but on an 04 plate S2 Exige its a lot more than most have. Are there any bits that will need to be replaced soon that could be costly? Is 24k (from a non-lotus dealer) a reasonable price? In a couple of years if I decide to upgrade will I struggle to sell a Lotus that will have 40k miles on it?

Just wondering what the general feelings are coz at the moment I'm swaying toward an 05 plate S2 costing £28k but not sure if i'm being stupid.

Cheers All

mmm..it will probably want tyres, break pads, maybe discs...thats about it really..if it already hasnt had them done.

£24K seems a bit steep with twice the avg miles on it for its age...give it 3 months after the 220S version is out and you will be able to pick up early Exiges for sub £20k...or have a lot more choice in the £20-25K bracket

I'd be seriously looking at twinpipes if I were you. Gorgeous car, right colour combo (red & black) and with all the toys. At 19k mls and £23K, if you're in the market for an S2 Exige you'll struggle to find a better deal I reckon.

If its red and in sheffield then I know whos car it was. There are no problems I can think of with the mileage. Biggest consumable cost on an exige is the tyres so just check that there is life left in them.

Twinpipe, I'd be happy to take her off your hands but you've gotta take an Astra worth about £4k in part ex. Quite a step down from an Exige!

Yeah Matt, its the one in Sheffield and its in ardent red my favourite colour.

Tempted to buy new but the immediate depreciation as soon as I drive off the forecourt bothers me even more than paying inflated dealer prices on a nearly new car.

I know the sensible thing is to wait a few months til more 220's have sold and theres more used Exiges on the market, but I sold me Type 25 Elise a few months ago and have regretted it ever since! Need a Lotus ASAP!

No dont buy Twinpipes, he doesnt look after it.
He never washed it, ok Just1 did, better than a professional valeter
He never serviced it, OK Westovers did, there isnt a better dealer service dept.

OK it was well looked after, he just made sure others did it for him

If you log onto midlandslotus.co.uk there is a guy called halfpenny - its his old car. The website will give you quite a bit of its history. Its basically been used as a daily driver.

£24k sounds a little bit too much - you should be able to knock £500 off that. Also exige s2 values have taken a big dive recently so now is a good time to buy - especially with it being winter

I have just bought a S2 Exige and reckoned that it was a good time to buy- the car was in the ideal spec and I got a great trade-in deal on my S1 so I am happy. - there were 3 sub 25k ones on Autotrader at the beginning of last week, two of which are sold (one to me!) and the red one remains. So I cant see s2 exiges being sub 20k by the end of the summer. But even of they are, what a summer it`ll be exige-ing about!

The red one has got a FLSH and is very well looked after. It's a cracking car, and I think it recently had some new Yoko's and some other bits.

halfpenny comes on here too IIRC.

If it's Mr Halfpenny's old car then it has been very well looked after and serviced buy the best Lotus dealer in the Midlands, if not one the best in the country.

25,000 mile on it for a 04 plate car is not the slightist of problems, because mine has the same and it still feels like new.

With the Toyota engine mileage is not a problem, It's not long been run in IMHO.

Re: "Also exige s2 values have taken a big dive recently so now is a good time to buy - especially with it being winter"

True it's winter prices at the moment but to be honest the market is slow because its winter and notthing else. I don't think prices will realy be affected by the new S model. £ 500 at the most. People are saying this because they think that the S is not that much more than a standard Exige. Balls, I have just had it priced up to the same spec as my current Exige and I can tell you its a hell of a lot more.

There are a lot of people talking down prices at the moment, if you are selling hold on in there for a month or to and the market will be moving again. Its the same ever year.

Cheers Snapper, feel a bit more confident. I'm still a bit worried what will happen in a couple of years if I decide to upgrade to a new S. Surely an Exige with 40k miles will struggle to sell?

Not with a 'yota lump and plenty of stamps in the book. People mainly shat themselves over the perceived fragility of the K series at higher miles... which generally seems to be bollox unless it's not looked after properly as there are plenty of high mileage S1's still going strong.

As for the value of 'standard' S2 Exige's not being dented by the S, I think you're wrong, but time (and the used market) will tell...

Do I hear my name ??

Yep. My old car it is. Swapped it for a E class diesel from Neal, the guy that owns the garage. My parents live just up the road. I'd been trying to sell the car for a while to be honest. Loads of motorway miles with my job and new 48's every 5,000 miles, plus services every 9,000. Coupled with the additional premiums on my insurance for Class 1 business use, along with a crap supplying dealer (different to the servicing dealer !) finance package which to cut a long story short mean't I sold the car last Friday with a £9k deficit that has been lumped on the Merc..... I think the non-supercharged Exige depreciation story will get worse too. I bought the wrong car for my needs (only car) simple as that. And now I';; be paying for it for the next 5 years. Although at least a diesel Merc won't depreciate !

Exige is a good car. High mileage due to lots of motorway miles - Newcastle, Lincoln and Watford all regular haunts.
As Snapper said, car has full service history from Nick Whales, had 5 sets of rear tyres and one set of fronts. Has had two sets of pads and one set of disks. Drivers window been replaced under warranty 3 times. Roof seals / anti squeak kit fitted at the factory. Starter button fitted by Nick Whales, along with the stage 1 exhaust. Did 4 track days with no offs (Mallory, Donnington, North Weald and Zandvoort). Other than that the car does what it says on the packet !

I still have plenty of pictures and can provide any additional information you require if your interested.
